| I honestly have not looked this up to see if its okay for dogs, because I'm lazy, but I know that papaya is good for heartburn/acid reflux in humans. In fact, we recommend it to the pregnant mommies at the birth center I worked at instead of Roland's or tums. It definitely tastes better. Maybe you could research and then ask your vet??? Edited to add: I looked it up and this is what I found.. http://canigivemydog.com/papaya It says papaya is safe and can cure digestive issues as well as help in other areas.

| 4. Papaya Readily available in most markets. This tropical fruit contains papain, an enzyme often used as a meat tenderizer. It assists in the breakdown of proteins and thus is considered a “digestive aid.” Ripe papaya is an excellent source of carotenoids and potent antioxidants, and is also high in Vitamin C, most of the B vitamins, potassium, magnesium and fiber. These nutrients benefit eye health, blood vessel integrity and joint function. Pup Prep: Scoop out a ripe papaya and serve as a snack (remove the seeds; they’re edible, but have a peppery flavor that may be too much for your dog). Papaya Enzyme and Flatulence Dogs sometimes get gas because they are not very picky about what they eat. Holistic vets say you can easily deal with dietary indiscretions by giving your pet a papaya enzyme once a day for several days. A dog that weighs 50 pounds can take the dose for adults. You can give more or less of the enzyme to larger or smaller dogs, depending on their weight. The papaya enzyme has been used in pet food to make the taste of the food more enjoyable so you should not have any trouble getting your pet to take it. The nice thing about the papaya enzyme is you can use for digestive upsets for yourself too. This enzyme works equally well for pet owners and well as pets. The papaya is rich in many different nutrients. These nutrients include vitamin C, potassium, folate, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin K. Papayas also protect against heart disease and atherosclerosis. They help to lower cholesterol and protect the body from developing macular degeneration. They also help build up the immune system with the antioxidants that they carry. They protect against rheumatoid arthritis and strengthen the lung health for someone who smokes. Holistic vets also recommend digestive enzymes on a regular basis to help keep your pet digestive system strong and healthy. These enzymes help break down proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber. Digestive enyzmes may also help your pet have more energy and this is very good for older dog. Enzymes are food. They are designed to help dramatically improve digestion. Enzymes are also energy. Your dog’s system has a choice: to use the energy in the enzymes to help digest their food or the energy in their body to digest the food. Using the digestive enzyme energy will conserve the body’s energy and the body’s enzyme reserves. Better digestion means better use of the nutrition in the foods along with other many other benefits. Try PetAlive Digestive Support which is a tonic that helps strengthen the digestive system. Using a digestive remedy really does help your pets digestive system work more efficiently which helps reduce gas and makes them feel better. Plus you don’t have to smell the stinky gas. The ingredients are all natural so you don’t have to worry about any bad side effects. If you want to find out more about the product click on the Pet Alive banner at the top or bottom of the post.

Awesome, we do have some chewable papaya tablets. I should give him like half a piece at night and see how it works | |

| I just posted on another newsfeed, but try slipper elm bark powder it eases and coats the intestine and I would also suggest a digestive enzyme sprinkled on his food Last edited by Teegy; 04-09-2014 at 09:37 AM. |
