| Getting 1yr boosters early? Lola is going to the vet tomorrow for pre spay bloodwork. The receptionist told me she's due for her 1 yr boosters in July but I could get them done tomorrow. I have no idea when she's going to get spayed, it depends on their schedule. She wouldn't be getting the rabies booster tomorrow. Is it bad to do them early? Lola didn't have any problems with her shots. |

| Why get them early? Then all her vaccines will get bumped... get them when they're due, and not in combination with her surgery....

| I was considering it because it's one less visit to the vet. She'll probably have to wait at least a week for the surgery, the bloodwork has to come back, they only do it on certain days, and I want a specific vet. |

| I would personally just do it. No harm in it really. But I'm not a stickler for vaccines and after the 1 year of age boosters don't plan on getting my future dogs vaccinated more than likely again anyway in the rest of their life... so I don't stick to any schedule. Example, if I got them in March of 2014, I wouldn't HAVE to get them the next time in March of 2017.... legally the only vaccine required is rabies anyway. So unless you're boarding, etc, and they require them within a certain time frame or something...

The dog can produce a stronger antibody load if it does one vaccine at a time with no other stressors involved.

| We're back from the vet. Lola had her blood drawn, no shots. He'll call me tomorrow with the blood results and she'll probably get spayed next Thursday. She's up to almost 7lbs!! Quote:
I don't do the kennel cough vaccine or any of those, I don't board Lola so I don't need them. | |

| An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If this was a 3yr vaccine, I wouldn't have a problem with doing it early. But with this being a puppy, in her first year, doing boosters 4 months early could be too much for her system. These little dogs get the same amount of vaccine that is given to horses to build immunity. Vaccines are serious medicine, and over vaccinating can cause serious complications. Please don't take this chance with your baby, it's just not worth it.

| I did see that, sorry. (Sometimes I post anyway for other folks who may be reading the thread). I should have acknowledged your posts and kudos to you for making the best choice for your pup!

Actually - does anyone know why it's so important to do the puppy ones, then again at a year? I'm curious. I will always get the puppy vaccs, and then again at one year, but after that I'm almost certain I won't vaccinate again (besides rabies)? But I am just curious of the logistics of it all and why it's important to get reboosted at one year? And you know me, I am the biggest advocate of NOT over-vaccinating!
