Why do threads that always have big topics have to have someone come in and tell people how to post? If we are following the rules then we are all adults and should be left to post how we are going to. Only a moderator or admin should be the one to say how we should and should not post. It would be nice if we could get a new rule about that it might cut some of the drama out and unessisaryness.

Yes that might be nice but it would also be good for you to reflect and see where you add to the drama the drama was here before I ever entered the thread unfortunately

Totally agree, Taylor. Funny now it will be said there was already drama...bottom line someone came in talking OFF TOPIC and telling us how to post. THAT should be against the rules imho but apparently the admin and mods do not agree. I have seen so many threads turn just because someone decided he/she was moderator for the day. Most threads would work themselves out if people would mind their own business as we were told to do.

I think that genetics do play a big factor in longevity. I have tried many methods of feeding and I like all of you hope my pups live very long lives. We had one member a while back who's pup celebrated his 20th birthday and she said that although she hated to admit it here that she fed it EVERYTHING. I like most of you try to be really picky with what my two get to eat and I think all of us do what we feel is the very best for our pups. It would be great if there was a perfect method of feeding them. But getting mad and upset because someone doesn't agree with our methods does probably more damage to our pups than some other things as I am sure they sense our stress levels. Mine do anyway. Now I could understand all the arguments if someone said feed them grapes or onions every day but I do have trouble understanding threads like these, where we all love our pups and want to do what is best for them.

I have more than one reason for being here....and one of them quite frankly is to share knowledge.

There are many people who believe every single thing they read and I believe that when something is posted that is not true, it behooves us to make that clear. There was a thread once that told people to feed cotton balls and milk to their pups if they swallowed glass....I was not about to let that go without comments. If MY pups eat glass, I am going to a vet! Same thing here.... The OP made it sound like kibble is poison and that is just NOT true. Another person came along and said that raw food is BEST and that is not true either. So....I posted and I will continue to do so when I see such comments.

I see a LOT of threads about raw food that I never comment on but they don't come across as saying that is the ONLY acceptable option for pups. When I see someone saying something that I believe not to be true, I feel I have a responsibility to say so. If people cannot hack that, I really don't know what to tell them. This forum is not one where you say something and that's that...if people want that, they should go to Twitter or start their own blog and not allow comments from other people!

Oh, and BTW there is only one person I see who appears to be mad and upset. I really thought it was a pretty decent discussion prior to the interruption. I realize Jenny was frustrated, but we were trying to explain to her...NOT jump on her as we were accused of doing.

I recently got reprimanded on a FB forum for telling a person who was feeding her pup bacon that it could cause pancreatitis. She kept saying it was ok, that it was just a little bit of bacon. She got mad and threatened to leave and the owner of the page reprimanded me (and others) Because she said only positive posts. I thought helping someone not kill their pup was positive. So...I was supposed to just sit there and let this person say that bacon is ok for dogs. I chose to leave...no time for that crap.

Please let me clarify I was not saying this to anyone in particular. I just hate to see people who all love our pups fight over something like this. Even vets will disagree on what is the best diet for our little ones. I had a vet recommend Eukanuba which I don't like but it doesn't mean others have a different view on it than I do. I tried home cooking and it didn't work for mine so they are back on kibble. Haven't tried the raw yet so have no view on that one. And as you said, with yours they have a variety of foods, depending on their situation which I believe truly would make a difference.

There really was not a fight. Someone came late in the game saying that, but it was not true. No one was saying not to feed any certain food.!

I'm sorry but I must go. Teddy's corn and pasta have been warmed up, and he's hungry. Bon appetite everyone, whatever you feed.

I'm curious. For those of you who feed raw, how do you determine the serving size? Right now mine are on hills because it's the only thing we can find that doesn't cause Anna to itch. Also she was over weight and this food has her on the right track. Her energy level is great. BUT Barney won't eat his kibble now, he will only eat hers. He's underweight and definitely doesn't need to be on hills metabolic. I looked up raw diet, but don't really trust what I saw. We purchase beefalo, which is naturally low fat, locally from a family that doesn't use any pesticides with their beef. I wonder if I could use this to feed my dogs. Can someone explain in more detail what the raw diet is like?

Good lord . . Who would of thought that what we/anyone feeds their dogs would stir up such a dramatic conversation. I am just at a loss with words and have no further comment other than how very sad that even a conversation about dog food took a turn for the worse !
