YorkieTalk Newbie! | Eating Issues My 10 month old yorkie Zeus does not want to eat his food. He is refusing to eat his meals and even passing up his favorite treats. He eats Royal Canin and I had no problems until this past week. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what food I can try to give him. I know this can be the time when they start getting very picky. |

| i just adopted my yorkie from the aspca and he refuses to eat the food they told me to give him. I even tried different foods and still nothing. I felt so bad I went and bought some chicken breasts & cutlets and boiled them for him that he ate, but my sister said Im spoiling him. I even tried mixing the chicken breasts with his food and he sort of just ate around it. someone please help me and my ziggy poo |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | My guy Galen is very finicky. I started changing flavors of food. He seems to not like the same food after two weeks. I mix two flavors together. It is seeming to help

| I am no expert, so can only send positive thoughts that you find something that Galen likes to eat. IMHO, I'm not convinced that you are spoiling him, he's telling you something, and just knows what he doesn't like at this time. Do what is in your heart. As his mommy, I feel that you know best. It's frustrating that they can't talk, but food refusal is the way he is telling you something is up. To make a long story short, I knew that there was something not right with one of my children soon after birth, and was told that I was an over doting mom That broke my heart, as I am a very conscientious and caring mom/person. I kept trying to find an answer. It took 2 years, and lots of persistence, to find out that the cause was a very rare (1 in 250,000 people) kidney disease that he will never grow out of. Call it a mother's intuition. I know that we're talking about a dog here, but it's the same to me - my child couldn't speak either. I believe that there will be others on here, with much experience, that will chime in with suggestions. All the best in finding the answer!! Cheers! |

| I had a picky eater at first but kept trying different foods. I even cooked but didnt want to get in the habit. Finally, I found Natures Recipe Grain Free Puppy(dry) and Merricks Puppy (wet) seem to work for us.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Hi! Just wishing you all the best with your babies. I myself am also having issues with one of mine, but she just had a litter, so that may be a factor. Other than that, I have used for many years Blue Buffalo. I turned to this brand because they don't put in all the extra fillers, so the food is grain free (recommended by my vet for my Beagle) and also nutrient-rich, so they eat less, but get more nutrition and there's also less quantity and less smell of the waste. That's just what I've done just from a 'quality-control' perspective if we can call it that. When I got my girl Lola, she wasn't thrilled about dry kibble (so this finicky behavior is not new, just different this time and it has been 3 years since we had any issues). So...for my little princess, I used to buy canned food also from Blue Buffalo as well and mixed in a teaspoon or 2 with the dry kibble. There are several flavors and textures to choose from and I love that you can actually see the pieces of carrots and peas and potato in it. There are also a couple of other really good brands. My thing is not so much about the brand as it is about the ingredients, calorie content, and depending who I'm feeding, protein content and other specifics. Nutrition labels list ingredients in order of amount, so the first ingredient is the most important - there can be up to 51% of it. I read all ingredients, but the first 5 really call my attention. Good luck in your search, hope you can find a solution for your baby.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I tried Blue Buffalo but he did not really like it so I put him back on Royal Canine. But I noticed he stopped eating eat when I switched him from puppy to adult. I am going to try a few other options to see what he likes best and mix it up so he is not eating the same thing at all meals. Hopefully it will help. |

Good luck! Sorry to hear he didn't like BB...it is an awesome food, but not if he's not eating it ;-) I know it's hard when they have such selective palates! lol My boys chow down anything I put in front of them, they don't discriminate. And Lola was doing really well until she had the puppies (C-section). Then everything got disrupted and we have struggled to get her to eat for almost 3 weeks now. So hopefully we will also find a good solution for her. Have you tried soaking the food in chicken or beef broth? Also, consider keeping some Nutrical gel and offer it as a high calorie boost.

Lola, when she was eating her normal diet, LOVED the wet food mixed in with dry, especially the Homestyle recipes and we could switch flavors easily if she ever got bored with one. She would eat half a cup of dry with a heaping teaspoon of wet thoroughly mixed and even licked the bowl clean All the best to you and your baby. Good luck!
