| Can I switch from puppy to adult food? Gunner is almost 8 months and I am out of puppy food. I feed wellness small puppy. I called the local TSC to see if they had any so I can get my husband to pick it up. They have regular puppy, but not small breed. They do have the small breed adult, which look exactly the same to me. Can I switch him to adult food this soon, or should I just get the regular puppy?

| Our Gracie is 12 weeks old and I am preparing for the right time to switch as well. We were told to switch to adult about 6 months OR as soon as she is spayed (which is also at 6 months). The logic on the spaying note is that they are likely to put on weight after the procedure and no longer need the extras that puppy food provides. We feed Earthborn Holistic Puppy Vantage presently but many people feel their young ones the adult grain free formulas. IMHO as long as you are feeding a natural really healthy food that is giving full vitamins and nutrients you are probably OK. |

| I feed Royal Canin and my puppies are on puppy food until they are a year old....but that is more for me....memory!!! Rounded it up to a year! But on the bag, it says they can go to adult kibble at 8 months old....that way the growth plates have stopped growing and they are actually considered young "adults" at the age of 8 months.... |

| I think it is fine to transition into adult at this time. Small breed is just smaller kibble size, which some of the tiny pups might find easier to chew with tiny mouths, but the basic formulas among different Wellness varieties are somewhat close. Many other brands offer "all stages, adult to puppy" versions. Stay with the same brand as you change, and there will be less chance of gasro problems as you transition. My girls easily moved between different versions of Wellness, but they are 5 yrs. old.

| I switched Toki from puppy food to an all life stages (ALS) formula when she was around 7 months with no problems. Especially if you're using the same brand with a similar formula, I can't imagine you having any difficulties transitioning |

| They didn't have the Wellness small breed, so I bought Merrick Chicken small breed? He seems to like it, I mixed it with the Wellness. I will continue buying the Merrick since they sell it all the time and I can preorder it. He also will eat it, he wasn't eating the Wellness.

| We waited until 10 months for Bella, but I think that 8 months is okay. My understanding is that the puppy food has higher calorie content, so keep any eye on your puppy's weight. |
