The huge jar (54 oz) @ select Costco! Certified organic non GMO, unrefined, unbleached, un-deodorized, extra virgin, cold pressed, hexane free. The only not so good thing is that it comes in a plastic jar, but it is BPA free. It smells heavenly & it is yummy!

Lol, it's so funny that this is all the rage. I was looking for something to get Jillie's hair to sit down and a YTer recommended a TINY bit of coconut oil. It worked great but my wife read the directions and realized she could use it as a butter substitute in cooking, on popcorn, etc.

The small jar I bought that would have lasted Jillie forever was gone in no time, and we now buy that Giant jar from Costco.

I use coconut oil for everything!! I buy mine from Bountiful Baskets (food co-op) and can get a half gallon of virgin in a glass jar for $20.50. I usually buy two jars when they offer it and it's awesome stuff!!

What all do you use it for? I have had a big jar for about a year, but I just never use it. I tried it on my face one night bc it was really dry, but it never absorbed...just sat on my skin as a big greasy mess. I should try cooking with it though.

I use it in my toothpaste, for oil pulling, in my hair, body cream, for Piper, and I use it to cook with all the time. I also have a jar of the unscented for when I don't want that taste in my food. We love it and I usually go through about a gallon and a half at least every year.

Maybe you used a bit too much? I use it as a moisturiser but I just use a little. With continued use it makes skin very soft. It can also be used as a hair conditioning treatment.

I also add it to smoothies....it doesn't blend very well with all the cold ingredients but I add it anyway for the health benefits.

Pebbles LOVES coconut, she would eat the whole jar if I let her! I give her a small amount but she always begs for more:)

How do you use in food? Where do go you get uncsented? I saw that big jar at Costco and thought it would never get used up. I would love to hear more uses too.

What is oil pulling? Do you use it as a leave in for your hair, or put in/rinse out? I'm needing a deep conditioner and I wonder if it would be good for that...?

Maybe I did use too much, I'll try again. How do you use it for your hair...leave in or rinse out?

I've recently discovered Maracuja Oil (by Tarte) for the face and OMG....simply amazing. It's so hydrating, balancing, and your pores shrink (which I didn't expect, but had read about).

I try not to use it on my face because I've heard that it can promote hair growth.

I use it as a leave in. I have long naturally curly hair and it gets so dry this time of year. A little goes a long ways! It also makes Piper's coat so nice!!

Interesting on the oil pulling! I don't know if I could swish for 15-20 mins though, I feel like I'd really want to spit it out after 1 minute :p. I bet it's so good for the mouth health in general though. Too bad we can't get our yorkies to do it.

I leave it in my hair a while then rinse out. It can be used as a leave in conditioner but I haven't tried it that way yet.

I'll have to look up Maracuja oil, it sounds great!

I know!! When I first started oil pulling the plaque that was built up on my teeth just started scraping away. I loved it because I have a HORRIBLE fear of the dentist!! It actually whitens your teeth, too!!! It took me about a week before I could do it that long, I kept wanting to swallow, and when I first started it set off my gag reflex. Not fun!! :P

I usually add about a quarter of a teaspoon of it to Piper's raw food. She will literally eat it cold right off the spoon though.

Oh Gosh, coconut oil has so many uses...it is antifungal, helps lower cholesterol, boosts the immune system. It's my main oil for cooking now (not that I cook loll) & I made my own coconut toothpaste.:D It can also decrease abdominal fat!:thumbup: (I like this one heehee!)

My gag reflex is so sensitive, I won't be able to oil pull (I can't even drink one sip of alka seltzer w/out gagging loll!)...but I did read in a health forum that brushing your teeth w/coconut oil is just as effective, so I made my own toothpaste. Added baking soda & some peppermint oil.:D

Me too!! Only I also use Calm magnesium powder, trace mineral drops, and xylitol. I love my toothpaste! :D

I don't cook much either which is why I try to remember to add it my smoothies!

I was going to ask about your toothpaste recipe but I see you've posted it above! Thanks for posting that, I think I'll try it.

What does the calm magnesium powder & trace mineral drops do & where do you get it? I use the coconut toothpaste on the doggies too so I'll be skipping the xylitol.

It's supposed to help remineralize your teeth. I use the xylitol because my granddaughters use it sometimes and they like it sweeter. I have never thought of using it on Piper!! That should help break up what plaque she has left on her teeth a little more. I guess I'll have to make Piper her own batch now. :)

We have a joke in our house based on the father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" who used Windex to cure everything. My answer to just about everything is coconut oil. It works better than neosporin for me, and I feel safer using it around the doggies.

Very interesting, thank you for the info. Yes, I've read that the plaque just falls off! My guy's teeth are all in pretty good shape right now, so IDK if it's true, but if it works for people, I'm sure it works for our canine friends.

My Lillie matts easily so I used it on her hair to comb some matts out before her bath!! O...M...G! I couldn't wash it out! :eek: I had to give her another bath, which she wasn't too excited about! Maybe I used too much! I use it after my shower, arms, legs...any rough spots...and it works great! I know you can feed it to animals...but, haven't tried that yet!

Lolll I've never applied coconut oil on their hair & now I know not to unless it's the day b4 their bath or something.
I use coconut oil to pan fry their egg whites, they love it!

I know oil pulling is reported to have many health benefits, but for plaque and whitening teeth, buy a SonicCare toothbrush. You will never have plaque. Good for your gums too.

I tried coconut oil on tangles and it made a big mess, made the hair more prone to breaking.
