So.. kristin...u think that coconut oil is not effective for dry skin???

My allergies to pollen usu hits in March, so I'll try it then. My dad has allergies too & asthma, so I asked him today if he was congested @ all...he wasn't. Told him to put coconut oil up his nostrils if he does & he said ok.

I prefer to feed the coconut oil for dry skin. When I put coconut oil directly on Piper's hair, I use a very small amount rubbed on my hands and then I just run my hands over her coat. Makes my hands soft, too.

Maybe I do overkill but she gets about a half tsp (don't give too much because it's a detoxing oil and it can give your baby diarrhea) of coconut oil on her raw food in the morning and a capsule of fish oil on her raw food at night. I must say that she has an absolutely beautiful soft, shiny coat and no more dry skin!! ;)

I believe coconut oil and fish oil is helpful with dry skin, but it isn't a cure for a serious skin problem. My boys' coats did improve with a fish oil supplement (and I need to order more). Haven't tried coconut oil on them.

As IDPiper indicated, you don't want to go overboard with either. More is not better. You can make your baby very sick with both -- or I should say, with each (meaning not just combined).

Thaaaaanks... I think I'll give them what I have. Primrose oil, and coat vit (pb). But if it won't work..I'll still wanna try the coconut oil

Is the primrose oil a dog supplement? Do not give any supplements made for humans. I have never heard of using primrose oil orally. I know it is an ingredient in topicals, like Isle of Dogs products.

I use it everyday on my face for cooking I feed it to the dogs, I put it in smoothies

I've heard krill oil is actually better than salmon oil, salmon oil is used as a supplement for omega 3's.
My vet explained that coconut oil is good to use in older dogs to help gain weight

I've heard that too, that krill oil is excellent for both humans & pets. Which do you use?

I'm a little confused about weight gain on coconut oil bc I've read that it helps boost your metabolism...maybe it's different for pets?

It works loll! It's been unseasonably warm here, like 80's & the pollen count is high @ 8-9. My dad's allergies have been acting up & I put some coconut oil on a q-tip & my dad said it works! His allergies were gone. Amazing stuff.:thumbup:

I have been using coconut oil for everything for years so it's quite funny to me that it is now this huge thing people are just now discovering. We buy it in bulk and portion it out into separate smaller containers. One for personal use, one for cooking, and one for the pups!

Interesting uses for coconut oil. Wonder if you can use in home cooking in place of corn oil?

Coconut has replaced all cooking oil @ our house. We still use olive oil for salads & pasta, but mostly use coconut oil for cooking.
