| Are Anal Gland cleansing necessary? Is anal gland cleansing really necessary unless theres really a problem? My dog is 2 years old now and seems to be in great health. I've been recommended it by a couple friends. Is it really necessary or is it just an unnecessary expense? Does anyone do it at home? |

| "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Huey is almost 5 and has never had any problems with his anal glands. He eats dry kibble, makes solid poops and that takes care of it. I have heard one you start messing with them, you will have to continue. Nature takes care of these kinds of things most times.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | No, it's absolutely not necessary unless they're not working themselves. Don't mess with it if all is well bc you can do more damage than help.

My boys are 4 and 5 years old and do not have their glands expressed. They do it naturally.
