Greenies I have never given these to my dogs but I have heard a lot about them. What are the Pros & Cons ? Would you give them to your dog ? |
dog Never. A high risk of choking. If they bite off a piece it could get lodged. I am very careful and hardly give mine anything. Once in awhile they get a CET chew from the vet. If that gets gooey or small I take it away. Be very careful. |

Thank you ,good to know.. |
Ever sense they started causing blockages I wont even look at them. Get naked chews are pretty good and they will clean the teeth. |

I won't do Greenies, don't really trust them. I tried CET chews but he hated the veggie ones and would just walk around whining with the rawhide-type ones. I don't do antlerz (way too hard, imo, and he doesn't like them anyway). He is not big on Himalayan chews. He won't chew Nylabones. About the only thing he even enjoys or likes is bully sticks, Get Naked chews or Dentastix. It's rare that we buy bully's anymore - I got him some interactive toys and use Kongs filled up to keep him occupied more now (it's WAY cheaper). I do buy Dentastix (yes, they're Pedigree) but meh, no ill effects and he likes them a lot. They do make his breath smell fresher too. It's more of a treat though, vs. a chew because he eats it in less than 60 seconds. lol |

She was just suggesting that you might want to add the words, 'can' or (suggestion from me) 'might', or 'may' break a dog's teeth. Bc we all know that all dogs are different & what happens to 1 will not happen to another. But I appreciate you informing & warning all of us to be aware, that it can happen. |

I no longer use hard chews for my dogs & since they're older, I don't want to risk them breaking their teeth either. I guess it all comes down to supervision & good judgement. But once in awhile, I would like to give them something to chew on to help clean their teeth. They get Beams from the honest kitchen...seems like I'll be looking into the Naked chews. Which do you give Callie? |

You must get Beams for Callie to try! It's dehydrated catfish skins, their breath won't stick as bad or be fishy. We get the 12" tall ones. I do use an old towel for them to chew on, don't want their bed to get fishy loll. |
I've tried the Hartz' Dentist's Best with dental twists sticks (beef flavor), Oreo seems to like them and there not very expensive. I also purchased Nutri Dent (Edible Dental Chews) from Nylabone (Small Petite) but I haven't given him one yet, any feedback on these? TJ |

I understand what you are saying but you mentioned nothing about the other brand I made note of. I will look into hartz and see the details of this product. |

Ok. thanks for the insight. |
I dont have chester eat them, ever since the choking stuff, he love the zukes z ridge bones very digestible but your dog hes to weigh at least 5 pounds and be 6 months of age to give them to your dog |
Yes, we've used greenies. My dogs tend to scarf stuff down or battle with each other for things like this so we don't do any edible chews anymore. I liked greenies as they are a VOHC accepted product shown to help with tartar on the teeth. I don't think they are a choking hazard any more than any other edible chew. |
I think my biggest concern was that greenies where said to expand in the dogs stomach and intestens. I read some where someone took a piece and put it in a cup of water and it expanded like rawhide does. |

I used to give Greenies and I won't anymore. I have had to pick out chunks of greenies that get caught in my dogs cheeks more than once and he was chewing on a Greenie right before he had his first "health episode." We still aren't sure what they are so I don't know what to call them...but I am pretty sure the Greenie brought it on. I've tried the "Get Naked" chews with my older guy who is obsessed with Dentastix and he won't eat them. I figured he'd love them because they look the same, but NOPE. I would LOVE to wean him off the Dentastix and onto something else but he just won't have it. My boys are VERY picky!! They won't eat bully sticks...they won't eat anything nylabone....and they turn their nose up at almost all treats. I did find some Dingo treats that were shaped like bacon but they last a lot longer than the beggin strips bacon and they did like those and it did take them a while for them to chew...but I am just not sure about Dingo....they seem like they may be junk food for them. Blue Buffalo makes something that is similar to a greenie, but I don't know how they are. Has anyone tried them?? I would totally steer clear of the Greenies though!! |
Just wanted to share Turbo's Greenie scare. When he was a puppy, the lady taking care of him & Princess used to give them greenies...I was over visiting them & he just chewed a few x's & swallowed it, was done in 5 seconds! I got so scared, thought he'd choke or something. Told my friend not to give it to them anymore, that thing didn't last long enough to even clean his teeth. First of all, I think it's too soft, for a strong chewer, it doesn't last very long. 2ndly, it is a choking hazard bc chunks of it can be chewed off. Even if they changed the formula & improved it, I wouldn't use it. |
Billi has always gotten bully sticks & dentastix and is doing great on them. After everything I've heard about greenies and rawhide, I have a hard time giving her anything else that hasn't been fully checked out for little dogs. |
