| ![]() I have heard different things about switching the main protein in dog food. I am feeding CC and I swear I read somewhere on their web page it said they recommended to switch proteins but now I can't find it and I don't remember if it said why. Especially with very food sensitive dogs should you just stick to what works or is it important to switch things up every once in a while? What works for y'all?

| ![]() Peanut has been on Open Sky ( 9 months) and has been doing great! For me having a sensitive lil guy, knowing what I've been through with him- I'm going to leave him on Open Sky till we have a reason to switch! However they are suppose to come out with Buffalo, it has the same ingredients as the Open Sky its just Buffalo.. We will try that!!

| ![]() One school of thought says switching proteins is essential to prevent allergies or intolerance from developing. I don't know if there is any science behind that belief. I have also read that one or two proteins should be withheld as a fallback in case a dog develops sensitivities. My boys have been eating chicken based foods all of their lives, and the same brand/flavor almost non-stop for 3 years (Teddy) and 4 years (Max). They don't have any special dietary needs.

It's not a bad idea to switch around a little bc of the chances of allergies (and just for nutritional variety too) - but it's not absolutely necessary either. I think what's definitely important is that you save a few novel proteins, in case of allergies developing. I feed mostly duck (premade raw), but I do switch it up every once in a while both for nutritional variety and to avoid intolerance developing. Plus, I think it's nice to not eat the same exact thing all the time.
