| Skin allergies Anyone have a furbaby with skin allergies? Vet suggested fish oil on her food and 1/4 tab of Zyrtec daily for the rest of her life. Twinkie is also on 1/2 tab of Hydroxyzine. Any suggestions for a good shampoo/conditioner? Pam |

| Hi There, Oh the dreaded allergies, I have been there for so long! What food are you using? I have used the Sentryhc Dermasphere Anti-Itch shampoo- you can buy it at Petco. It is amazing. I heard Oatmeal shampoo is really not good for dogs with allergies, so I looked around for something different and came across this- it is great! It is also cooling. petco.com - SentryHC Dermasphere Anti-Itch Dog Shampoo customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

| Callie has environmental allergies that are worse in the warmer months and she will break out with bumps that normally turn into a skin infection. Omega 3 fatty acids were suggested for Callie so I give her a liquid supplement mixed with a tiny bit of baby food every night. She also has hydroxyzine for when she starts itching. I also wipe her feet down every night to make sure she doesn't drag any pollen or anything in her crate at bedtime. I found that grains really make her brake out too.

| We feed the grain-free Blue Buffalo. The vet felt the allergies were more environmental than food-related, although she liked that it is grsain-free. Pam |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I use a shampoo called Hy-Lyte from the vet. There is a conditioner to go with that. A vet derm dr. told me to feed my little brown poodle who had a terrible skin problem a venison based food. I did that and Chips got so much better. I hope you can figure out the problem and get it taken care of. |

Zyrtec works for some, and some not. Claritin is another 24hr pill you can try if Zyrtec doesn't work. If the allergies are year round, you may want to try Atopica (prescription). This is what Marcel is on and it was a miracle for him. Quote:
I've used Malaseb, EtiDerm, and Duoxo shampoos. I can't say if one is better than the other, really.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had allergies and testing couldn't determine what the cause was. After trying all the usual meds, we put her on Atopica. It has worked wonderfully. I hope you can find the best method that works for Twinkie.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Alfie has terrible allergies and isn't old enough yet for tests ( he will be next month) his Vet Dermatologist prescribed medicated shampoos. He gets bathed 3times a week with malaseb and epi-sooth (you need to leave each one one for 10 minutes) He also eats prescription food. I know how miserable allergies can make a dog and it is terrible to see them suffer. Alfie also takes two different antihistamines daily all of this together is working right now.

YT 3000 Club Member | chester has the enviromential allergies, and I use fish oil on his food, soap with no scent in it as well as no dryer sheets antihistamines will help for enviromential allergies but will not change food allergies. I always use a air cleaner and wipe off his feet when he comes inside with earthbath wipes, he has very sensitive skin and I use temaril p for when he gets the itchies good luck |
