She said she shares tiny bits of food with her dogs). I won't do sausage or anything like that though. The one time Jackson got really sick and was throwing up all night was after he ate wayyy too much sausage that had come off a greasy pizza. I really think that's what did him in. But he's never otherwise had a sensitive stomach and I think it's because I've always shared little things with him. I don't give fatty foods or anything. But yeah, chicken, steak, turkey, etc, I don't mind sharing at all in small quanities. Or popcorn every now and then and cheerios, etc.
Wow, my Rosie would be deathly sick if I did this. There s no way her little tummy could handle it. One piece of beef made her very sick.

I'd have to agree with ya there and Bella is at over 12 pounds.

I don't think any vet worth going to would reccomend feeding ANY fried foods ever to a dog. I'd stay away from pork too for so many reasons. Gastrointestinal problems are a pretty common issue as are other much worse problems.

Mine get some of what I'm eating if its appropriate for them. For example steamed green beans (which they spit out) or a plain grilled turkey burger ( no seasonings )

Sugar loves pizza so I give her a tiny crust crumb and she is content. I don't understand giving sausage or bacon or marinated meats. What if the marinade contained xylitol ??

I do not give any table foods period!! I do feed frozen green beans and if they have an upset tummy (thank god its been 2 years since that has happened, because I am anal over every bite they get) I will boil lean beef or turkey(because Jada is allergic to chicken) and add rice and canned pumpkin.
My DH thought since they loved frozen blueberries it was ok to give them several. We had 5 days of loose stools and throwing up after that incident 2 years ago and it broke him from feeding them anything but their frozen green beans.

One of the non health things about feeding a dog what your eating is it will teach them to beg for food.

Jess loves all meats. We give her chicken, turkey, beef but in small quantities and not all the time. Try boiling the chicken breast, strain the water and put it in an ice cube tray. Melt one cube and pour over her dry food when she wont eat it, she will gobble it up. Its all in the scent..

I agree, it is easy to turn them into little beggars. During mealtimes for humans, my boys used to go to their beds and patiently wait. We have been a little more liberal lately with giving the boys a tiny bit of scrambled egg or a couple of baby sweet peas off our plates. Now we have little beggars at our feet when they know we have certain foods.

I like to keep my boys' expectations low when it comes to treats. That way the treats are considered "high value" rewards for good behavior.

I have a co worker with three yorkies. Her DH gives them tiny bites of stuff that he is eating .Her middle girl Chloe is in the hospital now with pancreatitis and will be there for about 3 days if she's lucky. She started throwing up yesterday and diarrhea. Karen is so mad at her DH right now. She has told and told him no table food.

I didn't say my vet said she feeds her dog fried foods. She just told me she shares little bits of a lot of stuff with her dogs and doesn't worry about it. If I'm eating pizza, I share a little bit of crust with Jackson (and skip the cheese, sauce, etc). I'm talking like a thumbnail size of crust. If I'm eating a chicken nugget, I'll take a bite into it and he can share a tiny piece of the white meat with me. If I'm eating a steak cooked on the grill, he can have a little bite. It's meat. Beef, chicken, etc, is all in dog food in one form or another. It's not like we're eating like this every day or I'm feeding him plate fulls. I would be a paranoid freak if I knew one tiny piece of meat would set him off though That really sucks.

He's a food freak (and has been since he was a puppy, before he even got anything off my plate) and will grab whatever is on the ground very quickly. Living with children made not feeding him any "people food" extremely difficult but I think there's plenty of good people food they can share. "Table scraps" has kind of become a dirty word in the dog world, but I think people forget dogs used to eat this stuff all the time, not to mention people that homecook for their dogs are using "people food".

My family has just always been the type to feed their dogs from the table, and it does make a begger which can be very annoying. My sister was an infant when I got him, and my brother was 4ish. Things drop. I'm very diligent about it though, my dad knows I'll whoop his butt if he feeds him anything he's not supposed to have. His dogs eat everything under the sun and it makes me so mad I tell him that Jax won't know the difference if you're giving him a tiny piece of crust or a piece of meat, he just swallows it whole anyway.

I should mention Jackson is a good solid 17lbs or so. A tiny bite to him could be a big bite to a dog 7lbs and under.

When I have my midnight snack I fix a small amount of chicken for Callie and she has that every night but my vet said its ok. I would not do real fatty foods though like ham. She also occasionaly gets a few cooked carrots, green beans, peas, apple, blueberry, strawberry, and yam but never from my plate or when I am eating.

I just don't want to take the chance on something making my two sick so I forbid any food besides their kibble and frozen green beans to be give to them. My DH made them both sick when we first got them with fresh blueberries. They loved them so he was give. Them two or three every time he went into the kitchen. It taught him a valuable lesson or two. First they have tiny tummies and second too much of a good thing can Have bad consqquences.

Thanks for clarifying Brittany. (& setting me straight...these ole eyes just misinterpreted)
I'd still tell anyone to avoid the things mentioned already in this thread.
