Default Does made in Thailand

Pose the same concern as "Made in China"
with quality controlled in the USA & Canada stamped on the package.

My neighbour gives her little guys VitaLife Duck/Sweetpotato rolled treats, the dog goes crazy for them...When I was outside she had the package in her pocket and asked if Enzo would like it - I declined, but let me tell you the smell inticed the heck out of him!!

With food I won't feed my dogs from China, Thailand ect...I try not to buy food for me made there but theres certain things I like thats I can't avoid. But I think with dogs/animals the Qc isn't there like ppl. But I guess they did put crap in baby formula.

Anything for my dogs I would only feed made in USA. For myself, can't say the same. There are certain foods I crave that are only made in China. Lol.
However remember the factory collapse in Bangladesh? Not China but still a third world country. Saftey and qc are not at the top of their list of concerns.

Yup I agree. But I think Canada and Europe may have better safety practices then Usa...= less genetic tampering or food additives. But I usually always try to buy Usa when I can. Even if its a Global economy

Yeah, from what I have read usa & Canada is pretty much it for me. Europe I would consider, but Asia is pretty much off the list.

What does Quality Controlled USA/Canada actually mean on the package then?

I swear I have never read so many pet food/treat labels as I have the last two months we've had Enzo. So uneducated when we had Chloe, who must have had an iron stomach because nothing bothered her, and she ate cheap WalMart treats!

Sigh...is there a list somewhere of treats
Made in the US & Canada?

Thailand is supposed to have the highest safety standards in making pet & human food. Pet Foods Made in Thailand

I feed my guys Weruva & did a lot of research on it b4 I chose to feed the food. But...I also saw a post here on YT that someone's dog died from eating vitalife chicken jerky that's made in Thailand...so IDK.

Basically manufacturers go to places like China and other countries considered "third world" because it is cheaper to produce product there and there are less restrictions than in the US. I would not buy any food product from such places.
I do buy some treats that are made from meats produced in New Zealand where free range, grass fed animals are available. They are known for their good quality.

gracielove- I never knew that about New Zealand!! That's fascinating, but it makes total sense.

I get a little iffy about things from Thailand. It's a beautiful country to visit, I'm sure. BUT... I had a college professor from there, and she warned us to NEVER eat meat in Thailand. She said tourists there should basically be strict vegetarians for the entire visit, because the meat is so dirty it will make us sick. She left the country as a student, and returned years later to adopt a baby. Long story short... she ended up with a horrible case of food poisoning, almost died on the flight back to the US, and basically had to have an ambulance meet her at the airport. Evidently from living so many years in the US, her tolerance for dirty meat was gone.

I always think of her story and her warning when I see "Made in Thailand" on a bag of treats or food... I mean, if the meat is so bad for humans, imagine the quality of meat they're using for animals?

I wish more dog food, treats, toys, etc were "MADE IN USA". Whenever I'm in a pet store and they say "Can I help you find anything?", I always say "I wish you sold more things that are made in THIS country". I know I'm just a lone consumer, but there's probably a lot of us who think this way.

Honestly I have no faith in US made foods either. haha. I think it's important to research companies and brands individually.

I feed Weruva which is made in Thailand and don't have an issue with it.

From the link I posted earlier: “From a quality control standpoint, the pet food has to pass the same as human food,” he said. “Thailand is not huge in producing food for themselves, but they produce a lot of food for other countries. So the standards have to be very high. It’s a great place for manufacturing foods, which a lot of consumers don’t know.”

Weruva, which was launched in 2006, adheres to the standards set by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), considered to be one of the strictest, if not the strictest, human food processing standards on the planet.

So contrary to popular belief, Thailand actually is home to some of the safest foods for pets, as well as people.

“It certainly is not cheaper. The labor is cheaper. But the cost of making and running equipment is the same.”

Some Other Interesting Facts about Pet Foods Made in Thailand The USFDA recognizes the Thai FDA
The plant where Weruva is made is USFDA certified
While 100 brands of U.S. pet foods were recalled in 2010, none from Thailand were recalled
Thailand provides a large portion of the fish consumed in the U.S.
Pet foods produced in Thailand are subject to greater scrutiny than in the U.S.

The quotes are from Forman, the owner & founder of Weruva.
