Thinking of switching to Canine Caviar Bentley is 6 months and has been on Blue Wilderness Puppy since I got him home. He does well on it. No apparent skin issues. Not constant but he does have some noxious fumes to eek out of his butt from time to time. lol Overall he enjoys the food but I'm getting a bit tired of paying what I am for it and him basically eating only half of it. Here's the kicker. He picks out the life source bits and throws them all over the floor. I will give him one or 2 small feedings morning and evening of the food with warm water for gravy effect and he does inhale that down. Leave dry kibble out for free feeding between. It's the dry he picks out. I look like I have a rat problem around his food dish all those little black round pellets. I've put up with it, but like I said I'm a bit tired of throwing out almost half of what I'm paying. I love BB because of it's high rating, but think it's time for a switch. After reviewing what I am able to get locally. (Much easier to purchase as needed in stead of keeping up with anticipated needs and rushing to do mail order.) Canine Caviar appears to be my top pick. I had at one point considered Royal Canin but after reading ingredients list and it starts: Chicken meal, rice, chicken fat, corn gluten meal. They are now out. Also, thoughts on at what age to switch from puppy to adult would be appreciated as well. Wanted to get thought on Canine Caviar from other YT'ers. Thanks for the input. |
CC food Sorry to hear about the BB black bits, they contain much of the good stuff so it is not good he does not eat them. I used to feed BB also and it is good food, and my boy would eat the black bits. He seemed to go off the food after a while so, as CC was praised here, I now feed it. My dog does well on it but he needs to have some 'seasoning' like Parmesan cheese sprinkle or other treat things he likes over the kibble. He then eats all every time! It is very small round kibble the size of caviar and I like that as my baby does not chew but swallows food whole! I feed Chicken and Millet as he is used to chicken based foods. The problem with this food is that you either have to get your store to order it or send away for it by mail. It is also not possible to get samples. Another food similar to BB is Wellness, you might consider that? Good Luck, hope you find something your boy likes. |

I'm fortunate enough that a local non chain carries CC. Welness I know I can get at Petco or Petsmart. So now more food for though. Yes, pun intended. lol |
food I feed bb- my guys like it. I do put some water in it and a little wet chick. And veg. Canned. The poop is fine so i am afraid to change. I hope you find a good healthy food. |
Hi there- LOL Peanut did the same thing, he would pick out those little life source pieces. I have had Peanut on CC for about 8 months. (Open Sky) I’m pretty sure CC has a puppy food… I would leave Bentley on puppy till about 1 years old ( if I’m wrong someone correct me). |
We have always fed CC puppy to Princess Sophie. It's all shaped the same and she eats every bite! Sometimes we supplement with a little (I mean "little") canned or a few green beans but she always eats all of her CC so I have never worried about whether she is getting all that she needs. Good luck I hope you find what works best for you and your pup!! Blessings!! |

Are you ladies able to find CC in the 4.4 pound bags anywhere online? I wanted to get the Open Sky one for Toki to try but nowhere near me sells it and I don't want to buy a honkin' huge 12 pound bag...we would never get through it lol |

CC it is. Well just got home from our local non-chain pet store. They carry CC. The owners have yorkies as well and they gushed over my food choice. They said that's all they feed theirs. The guaranteed me Bentley will love it. I don't think I'll be doing the mixing the two so he will get used to it. He pulled out ALL the BB kibble that was in the bowl and ate all the CC like this little boy has never been fed his entire life. After researching online and seeing where the owner who create the CC line had a great dane that lived to be 17 which is so unheard of. And the protein ration making complete sense to prevent food allergies. I knew I wanted to use CC. Plus the fact that I'm able to buy it from a locally owned business is a plus. |
