I wouldn't necessarily judge a breeder on the fact that they use collars, a lot of breeders use slip leads, which goes around the neck.
My dad some times likes to think a harness is a handle :eek: lol

and thats fine...that's your personal preference but i know my breeder is awesome and she is very well informed on the breed therefore your opinion of her is not desired.

oh dear! I didn't think about dogs that could be free roaming. I guess I just assume everyone follows the laws haha. What was the deciding factor for you with choosing the buddy belt over the choke free harness? I haven't quite decided which one I want to get for her.

THANK YOU! :thumbup: thats all I was saying...what I was told DOES make sense so I don't understand why some people are getting their undies in a bunch over it! My breeder is awesome and I would recommend her to anyone who was looking for a Yorkie! :D

Collapsed trachea is dfinitely more serious than patellas. With patellas you ccan do surgery to fix it there is no effective surgery for collapsed trachea and sometimes the kindest thing you can do is put them to sleep

No undies bunched. :p I think if you did a poll, 99.9999% of members here would say harness. There are many older Yorkies here to demonstrate that their legs and shoulders are no worse for wear after years of harness use.

I too say harness! I've always said harness because of what I've read on YT. You guys have helped me so much more than I have verbalized and for that I am forever grateful. It just upset me when others started putting down my breeder as if she purposely tries to hurt Miley or something. :( Then after I was told what I was told about the knee's it made me question harnesses since Miley is currently being trained on a leash but obviously, like all of us here, I want what's best and more SAFE for Miley.

I saw the Buddy Belt in person at one of the Yorkie meet ups. I just fell in love with it; it's so well made and looks so cute on a Yorkie. There's no pressure on the throat at all. I do know of others who are very happy with the choke free too. I think it depends more on what look you like.

Would your breeder let you bring a harness for her?

I wish boutiques around me sold them so that I could see them in person! I almost want to buy one for Miley as a puppy but I know she will grow out of it and it'll end up being a waste but I am so tempted :p

I favor the buddy belt because its adjustable so if Callie has a tshirt on it will go over that but if she has a jacket on it can go over that too or like in the summer when she is nakie it will work then too.

Yes. My breeder is not against harnesses at all. In fact she know's how I feel about collars and harnesses. She told me if she knew how to properly train not to pull on a harness she would indeed do it for me but she's always used a collar and leash on her dogs so that's obviously how she trains. Her yorkies do not have collapsing tracheas. None of her puppies have ever had collapsing tracheas (except for one recently that was picked up by the neck by a siberian husky :eek: poor dog!!). She told me to try both and see which one works best for our family.

I would definitely use a step in harness that is cheap but will hold up until she is either fully grown or needs another one and then get a bb when she is fully grown. I still have Callie's first harness and collar in a memory box they look so tiny now she is 16 pounds.

oh good thinking! Miley already has lots of clothes haha so having something that can fit over that is most definitely a plus! Do you suggest buying bigger and adjusting to smaller sizes then? Miley is expected to be 4.5 lbs fully grown. Shes a tiny little peanut :D
