| Feeding sardines? Are little pieces of a sardine OK to feed a dog? I know sardines are full of Omega 3 but can't find any information on feeding to a dog. Does anyone feed their dog sardines? If so how much and what kind - (I am assuming the sardines packed in oil).

| Can you tell me how much and how often you feed them? I am going to try some as a topper in my girls kibble.

| I don't feed them regularly. I home cook so it is sometimes used for their protein. Sometimes I feed small pieces as snacks. I'm not sure why you want to add them to kibble. Also I buy them packed in water and salt free at trader joes.

| I was just going to add as a topper occasionally to their kibble as a treat.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | They are added to lots of homemade diets not only for the oil, but because they are so high in calcium, due to the bones, which are safe to eat.

| I also feed them, especially after my mommas deliver. Canned salmon with the bones, as well as kipper snacks.....my dogs love all the above! |

| Mine love those soft bones in the canned salmon.....when I make salmon patties, I pick out all those soft, mushy bones and feed them to the dogs.....same thing with the sardines....excellent, easy source of calcium! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I didn't even know they made boneless, how do they do that? Since you're not using it as a calcium supplement, it doesn't matter, but if it's used for that in a recipe, I think the bones are needed, they are rich in calcium.

| You can remove bones from sardines. I agree that if a recipe is calling for sardines w/ bones then no substitution should be made.
