| Heads Up: Did Gerber change their formula... again? Just checking on some food items I give my dogs... I use baby food to give meds, as a special treat or a snack, and as a topping on their food. I was checking the nutritional content yesterday and saw that Gerber is now adding cornstarch to their chicken meat baby food. Used to be chicken and gravy or broth. Then a bunch of questions popped into my head. How much cornstarch is in each little jar? Is this to fool me into thinking I'm buying something that looks like meat baby food but in actuality is mainly cornstarch and broth? Cornstarch is made from corn, but the reason I buy baby food meat is for the protein content, so am I adding carbs by using this 'new' product? TMI. So I jumped over to the Beechnut website to check out their formula, which states finely ground chicken and broth. This is what I want to be feeding my dogs. Lesson learned: always read the labels! I had actually switched brands a few months ago, as Beechnut meats are 10 cents cheaper per jar at my local WalMart. Cheaper, and more quality ingredients! Can't beat that!

| I'm an expert label reader. It amazes me how much sugar creeps into everything. Ugh.

YT 2000 Club Member | I bought a bunch recently for my newest puppy Nahla because she is on Purina puppy chow (plz dont give me grief, I no its not the best food for her but she can not at this time tolerate anything else with out getting the runs) to add to her diet for a little more protien and they were all still the chicken and broth. Thank you for the heads up! I will defintily be checking labels.

| We used it at the animal hospital all the time. If they've never had Baby food, it may take a few times to get them to try it. I give it to all mine, dogs and cats, to get them liking it, then if they ever need meds, they're ready for it. They can still spit a pill out, but most times they take it using a rapid fire method, lol. I load 3 fingers with a dollop of BF, hide the pill in the middle dollop, then feed a blank, the pill, and another blank right behind it. As soon as they hear the pop of the top, they all come running! It can also be used in a pinch as a bland diet... I've mixed it with rice when I run out of cooked chicken.

| I was thinking that too, bc it's always been labeled as Chicken and chicken Gravy. I just never really looked into it, lol. Glad I did!

| Gerber is becoming the Alpo of baby food. It's disgusting the amount of processed crap they use to keep it cheap. Rice flour, added sugar, crazy amounts of sodium. My oldest daughter was almost exclusively a Beech Nut baby. My little one didn't like baby food, so I started her on home cooked fresh foods as soon as she weaned from nursing.
