YorkieTalk Newbie! | 6 year old with hair loss I am new here as I 'inherited" a six year old yorkie when the owner died. She is a sweet little girl and immediately bonded with my family. She has a small area of hair loss on her back. The skin in this area has brown, flat freckles. Her skin is not irritated or red or flaky. I've had her groomed and they said she has no skin issues other than the hair loss. The vet ran tests. Everything normal. They said it is probably due to stress. She eats well, doesn't have any scratching issues or behavior issues. She is perfect! We have had her five months and we have fallen in love with her and she seems to be in love with us as well-almost like she has always been a part of our family. I'm wondering if her hair will grow back? She does get anxious when we leave her, even if it is for a short time. I'm assuming this is due to her being left alone for a few days when the previous owner passed (it breaks my heart when I think about it). If anyone has had a problem with their adult yorkie having hair loss or if you have any suggestions, please let me know. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm glad you are able to give this girl a loving home. Other members here have more experience than I do with skin and coat issues. Often a specialist, a doggy dermatologist, is able to determine the cause of the these things.

| I would think that her hair could grow back if it's stress related hair loss. It just may take some time. Unfortunately I don't have any first hand experience with this but someone more knowledgable than me can help you out. You're a good mommy to take in a needy soul. God bless you!!

| Sometimes dogs lose hair in the area where a rabies vaccine was given. I wouldn't begin to guess that that is what is going on, but it is a thought. I always recommend a vet dermatologist if you have concerns. Also, welcome to YT and congrats on your little one!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Exactly what tests were run? Also, does she have any other really random symptoms such as excessive hunger or thirst, excessive peeing, pot belly, lethargy, heat intolerance...just anything at all? I'd want her checked for hypothyroid, and I'd also want Cushings to be talked about if I were you. Wylie developed Cushings very young, age 4, so it can happen.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | We've had her 7 months now and the hair is not growing back. Not getting any worse either (thankfully). She still has one patch on the middle of her back. It's obviously not stress related or it would have grown back by now. The rest of her hair is not thinning. She is healthy and happy (I don't know what we ever did without her). I don't think the patch of hair is going to grow back. |
