| Project Healty Tails: under a budget Greetings! So, because of my new tought financial circumstances, I've decided to keep my furbabe's health as a priority, withouth getting me dumbed from my place or starve to dead. My Kiko is my everything, & I don't want to stop providing him with the best I can... That's why I'm here begging for guidance... 1. He's 3yo. Suffers from skin allergies caused by our neightbor's cats fleas. So I've to put him on Temaril-P about 3-4 times a year for his itching. 2. He has 3 baby teeth retained, & is due for a dental. I've saved for that & I'm close from being able to affor that. (It will cost $360) 3. He's on Comfortis for flea control, & I like it better than all topicals because he doesn't rubb it on the carpet & actually LOVES to screw the pill. But he just got his last dosage. Do you know of an association, website, or any way to get Comfortis or any medication at more affordable prices? It's not a secret that vets overprice medications. I'm a college student who recently had to drop my job to accelerate my performance in college. I'm single (no 2nd person support). I'm not asking for donations, just guidance please! He will also need training lessons for his barking, a harness... Omg! Feel stressed because all these expenses came at a bad moment. Thank you so much! Feel free to ask for more details etc Loves, Patty

Is your pup neutered? If so I'm surprised his retained teeth were not removed during his neuter. If he is not neutered, this should also be a priority. I realize, believe you me, how expensive these pups are to care for! My concern with your situation is I don't see how, without a job you will be able to afford your pups care, I'm assuming your living on school loans and wonder if you shouldn't consider the possibility of giving him up to a rescue? I know how harsh and hard that prospect sounds because it is obvious that you love him very much, but his care is very important. You obviously have already struggled financially, as most college students do, but ultimately you are responsible for your pups care, he is dependent on you to make sure his health is addressed. I am not trying to offend you at all, I totally feel for your situation because I know how easy it is to fall in love with these Yorkies! My primary concern for your Yorkie is his health. Retained teeth, especially in a 3 year old is nothing to take lightly and needs to be addressed immediately, here is a link with some info. Retained Teeth in Dogs | VCA Animal Hospitals If your dog is not neutered, this too needs to be addressed, here is a link with some info. NEUTERING: BENEFITS AND SAFETY I have few suggestions regarding what you can do without proper funds: I would if you did have proper funds and on a tight budget in mind recommend the following: Research YT for the best advice on Health Insurance for your pup, then do your own research, pick a plan that is both affordable and beneficial to your pup. Call your local S.P.C.A. or Humane Society, Animal Control or like and inquire about low cost programs that may be available for neutering and/or teeth extraction. They should be able to quickly guide you to any available programs. I would also recommend that you open an account with a Credit Union and establish yourself with them as they often will give you affordable loans, despite your credit or lack of credit. Keep your credit in check, this is very important because if you run in to an emergency you may have to resort to CareCredit or something similar. Search YT for online pharmacies that members use, do your own research and select one that you can afford. Before you do all this talk to your Vet and see if there are any things they may be able to do to assist you, such as samples etc. Contact the makers of Comfortis and other meds and see if they will offer you any coupons and/or samples. I don't know what else I can say but I want you to know I admire you for coming here and seeking the information for your pup, I know how stressful this is for you and you are obviously a very good Momma to your baby....please don't lose sight of your pups health and care, take care of you and your pup!
