Fiona almost always has a sweater on. I can tell when she's a bit cold by feeling the pads of her feet. She seems much happier with a sweater. She's also lost a good bit of hair in her old age.

She used to sleep on our bed but that ended a long time ago. She has two soft beds on the floor near our bed that she likes to go between. We try to keep everything where she expects it to be since she can't see that well. When we walk, I will sometimes stamp my feet in front her or so she can feel the vibration or I'll knock on something when I'm trying to get her attention because she can't hear that well either. The vibration seems to work.

She was on Proin for years when she started having incontinence but I took her off that and she's been fine. I was afraid it was causing more problems than helping over a long period of time.

My Peek A Boo does better with PJs or a sweater on at night. Without it, he will bug me every 2 hours for something to eat. I tried a sweater on him and he went right to his bed, laid down, and slept through the night.

Can I ask...how old your "Peek A Boo" is and how much does she weigh? I purchased the smallest puppy sweater I could find and told my DH that she had to have something to wear to come home in (just like our skin babies) and he just laughed. At this point I'm thinking of taking one of my really fluffy short socks and cutting the toe off, making a couple of holes for her to wear cause I think the little sweater I bought may even be too big. LOL

As someone pointed out to me, in my original thread it sounded like I was complaining about Fiona. That's not the case at all. I was just trying to describe what she's going through. I'm back again to say that our vet has suggested we try Neutricks. You don't need a prescription for it. It's supposed to help with doggie dementia.

We are also trying a med that is used for seizures sometimes and for pain. It's called Gabapentin. I'm not so sure about using this med because I guess if you take them off the med quickly it might cause withdrawal symptoms... but if it makes her more comfortable, we decided it was worth a try. I don't want her to be scared or in pain. I'll come back when I have a better sense of how these are working for her. I should also point out that she is not comfortable raising her head and she has a bowed back like a little old lady. She has arthritis so a pain med might really help. She still does enjoy her food but she is in her own little world (doesn't get excited when we're driving to the beach and things like that like she used to) and I sometimes worry that her quality of life is not good.

Along with everything that we're going through with our Yorkie Fiona we have a very sweet 12-year-old miniature schnauzer who was just diagnosed with cancer. It's going to be a tough year but we're just taking each day at a time with lots of love, attention, walks, and everything that dogs love.

You are a truly wonderful person, dog mommy....thank you for sharing Fiona's story what is your other pups name? They have certainly had a wonderful doggie life because of you....its very heartwarming to read of such love and devotion to pets that want nothing else but from us....
