| Hi everyone. I am a new Yorkie owner. I have always wanted one. About a month after my family dog was put down after a very long and healthy life, my brother's girlfriends Yorkie had puppies. I guess it was fate. Xena is about 12 weeks old now, I got her at 5 weeks, and since I got her I noticed she scratches alot. She definitely does not have fleas. At first I did not worry about it, thought it was a puppy thing. Then the vet noted her skin was a little red from scratching so I thought maybe she was allergic to something. I bath her once a week, she is still using some newspaper so her little paws gets dirty when she pees. And i notice after about a weeks time her fur gets a little oily and wild. I tried switching from puppy shampoo to baby shampoo thinking maybe she was allergic to whats in the puppy shampoo but it did not seem to help. Do you have any ideas to why she is itching or what I can do to help? Also I've heard the other day some owners use conditioner on their dogs. What kind of conditioner and shampoo do you use or suggest? |

| Im giving her the ceser canine cuisine puppy food. She has a sensitive digestive system. The chunky food made her throw up when I first got her so she only eats the lamb, duck, oven roasted chicken and top sirloin. I tried going to hard food but she won't eat it after soaked in water and was having a tough time eating it plain like my other pup. When I mixed the wet with dry food she would just eat the wet food around it so I don't think she's ready for hard food yet. Last edited by Mistressfreeze; 09-11-2012 at 03:23 PM. |

| I looked up Cesar Canine Cuisine dog food and it's definitely not the best out there. It has corn in it and dogs have a hard time digesting corn. I would consider changing her to a grain free diet to stop the itching.

| Is there any type of wet food you recommend I try going out to buy? |

| YorkieTalk Newbie! | Try Royal Canine for Yorkie! Dogs love it! Try staying away from wet food. They can be given to your dog once in a while but you want to go with a routine that your dog will follow. At first I feed my dog wet food but now I start to worry more about her diet and her health. They can diarrhea and wet food is usually bad for their teeth. |

| Wet food makes for softer stools, and it is hard, formed stools that helps express out the anal glands...If you go with the Royal Canin, you need to be giving her the Royal Canin Mini Puppy food until she is a year old. |
