Acana dog food changing Just a heads up....ACANA is changing it's formula and the new product is replacing the old one. The only food I have found that all SIX of my guys will eat is an ACANA food. Now they are changing it. So, if you want to stock up, do it NOW!! The old one is selling out quickly. I don't usually buy 30 pounds of dog food but I did this time. Louise |
Oh yes we know!! I have had an itchy miserable dog because of their "wonderful" changes!!!! :thumbdown We wont be using Acana any longer! p.s your little baby in your avatar is sooo cute!! |
Yeah, I heard not too long ago that they changed the formula slightly. I also heard the bags will be slightly smaller, the same size as their singles line. |
I have never fed Acana but from what I have read it is one of the better dry foods. What are they changing that is making such a big difference? |
Yeah... the new bag of Wild Prairie I bought gave Riley little dark dry patches on his tummy. I switched to CANINE CAVIAR and they are disappearing!! I Loved ACANA, but he is actually Loving the Canine Caviar and doing even better on it!! He literally screetches when I dig into the bag and put it in his bowl. He has Never done that on Any Kibble!! I should post video of him doing it!! :D We are feeding the Wild Ocean right now!! Wild Ocean Grain Free ALS Dinner |
i was also feeding acana. my oscar did so well on it. with the last bag i noticed he was itching a lot. he never had an itchy problem before.. i don't understand why they changed the formula. oscar is now eating blue buffalo wilderness duck recipe. he is doing great . The itching seems to be subsiding. no digestive issues like he has with raw diet. thank goodness he is not a picky eater. he will eat anything i put in his bowl. |

I also noticed that Riley's poos were getting a little Soft! Never had that problem before with the Acana, until the new bag!! |

i know , i dont get why acana changed their food. i guess they think they were making it "better" i had to find another kibble cause oscar cant eat the raw all the time, it give him the runs for some reason.. he is doing great on the bb wilderness. |

For the raw food i sometimes feed nv. I only buy the trial size bags. I am just going to go with the bb for now. He is doing really well on it. He doesnt really need the raw . I basically just used it for variety.. |

so riley is still doing good on the canine caviar? |
Maybe yall who had problems with the itching could type or write a letter to Acana and let them know you liked the old food better and that the new food is making your dogs itch. If they get enough emails or letters they might could change back. They may have no idea its causing itching. |
I agree with Taylor (For once , :p JK) we should write them a letter!! I am upset with them, I know it is not only Peanut now, it is Ry, Oscar... and I am sure many more! :thumbdown:thumbdown Peanut was doing so well on Acana! Damn them~!! |

He gets sooo excited come time for dindin now!! Half the time he would sniff the Acana and walk away and I would end up having to hand feed him. It's only been 5-days but he's doing GREAT!!!! :D |
You could shoot them an email on their website. This is the guy I have dealt with, before. Not sure if he is still there...?! Last we emailed was March, 2011... chrisr@championpetfoods.com |
Ladies, I am going to send them an email! Join me and send them one too :D |

The chicken meal actually is MORE chicken than the deboned chicken which is a lot of water. The protein content is less with the new formula. MAYBE it is as good as the old one but my guys LOVE it and I am not sure they will like the new as much. Louise |

Mine don't like Blue Buffalo. And even if they pick at it, they won't eat the little white pieces. SIX dogs and not one likes it. Louise |

isn't that funny how these little rascals have a mind of their own. Thankfully my dogs are not picky. They will eat anything |

ME: Was there a formula change for Acana?? Acana-Orijen: Yes there were plenty of changes in Acana !!! A lot of BRAND new formulas were added in the series, such as Duck & Bartlett Pear. Others were improved and all of them got BRAND NEW packaging !! Find out for yourself and we think you will agree that our NEW Acana series is better than ever !! ACANA represents a new class of foods that mirrors the high and various inclusions of fresh, whole meats that dogs and cats are naturally evolved to eat, while excluding inappropriate ingredients – like high-glycemic grains and vegetable proteins – that don't belong in the natural diet. ME: Thanks for the response!! - I ask because my Yorkie started getting dark dry patches on his Tummy.... which I think are a type of food allergy. They started when I started feeding him a new bag of the Wild Prairie Acana. I belong to a YorkshireTerrier Forum and there is another Yorkie on there that went to the Vet yesterday because he has became Very Itchy on one of the Singles Lines and was put back on Ranchlands and the itchies did not stop. The Vet said it was a food allergy. He had Never had a problem with Acana before, nor did my Yorkie. I have switched him to Canine Caviar and he is clearing up and doing much better. There are a few others on the Yorkie Forum whose pups are not doing well with the New Bags. We are all going to Write to let Champion know. |

What did they meet by this bolded? I am very sorry to hear that. Although Acana Wild Prairie is from the provincial series - that neither changed the formula nor the packaging- I would encourage you to look into the issue further, as dogs present allergies to 2 basic things: GRAIN and some source of animal protein. As Wild Prairie is completely GRAIN-FREE I will assume chicken might be the factor that is causing it. So I would highly recommend Acana Grasslands which again is GRAIN-FREE but features ranch-raised LAMB -and just a tad bit of duck- Both sources of HIGHLY hypo-allergenic and easily digestible animal protein. The first thing a vet will suggest is to switch to either duck or lamb. Please do let champion pet foods know, but I am sure that if you follow my advice, everything should clear up if it is a food allergy. They DID change that formula?!? so confused... is that FB page even legit? Doesn't look like something they would write. |
