| We had great luck with Zuke's Mini Naturals for training treats. When we didn't have the Zuke's, we used plain Cheerios. They also work great. We used an all life stages food since we had 4-5 dogs. When the younger ones were puppies we fed Nature's Variety Prairie chicken meal and brown rice. That worked well for us. If you have only one dog then I would probably say to use a puppy food. Get a puppy food that is more natural, containing no corn, wheat, soy, by-products, menadione, or any of that aweful stuff. Make sure it has a named meat or named meat meal for the first ingredient(s). The better foods come from specialty pet food stores, but Petco and Petsmart have a few good foods, like Blue Buffalo, Nature's Variety, etc.
