| How often should I feed my pupppy?? Hi, I think I maybe overfeeding my pup as his belly is getting big. I give him Nutrical, three times/day and feed him eukenuba pup food. I also giving him treats for potty training, and I noticed he is starting to get fat. How often should I be feeding him food and how much of it? Should I cut down on the treats? By me overfeeding, will he get bigger than he is suppose to? He is a 13 weeks old Yorkie Teacup which is suppose to be only 2.5-3lbs, so I do not want to feed him and make him 4-5 lbs All advice appreciated...Thanks |

| I free feed mine and give them half a tin of Lil Caesars every day. I would not withold feedings on a tiny yorkie. There is too much of a chance of hypoglycemia. I would rather have a healthy yorkie.

| I free fed mine when they were young and one is smaller 5 lbs. I neverr wanted to ration their food. I know some people feed only certain times of the day maybe they will answer your post but I will always free feed my dogs unless a vet says they need to be on a diet.

| If he grows to be 10 lbs that is not your choice. But you should feed him 3 times a day, and I would say a 1/4 of a cup. But you can read the package, it should tell you how much for his weight and age. Also why are you feeding him nutical three times a day?? That has a lot of calories in it.. Is he sickly?? And by the way, I'm sorry but there is no such ting as a teacup.. My boy is only 2.5lbs and 6 months old and he isn't a teacup. He is a small yorkie that will not make standard.

| How do you know he is not a teacup? From what I read on other sites, teacups are yorkies under 3lbs. I know there is contraversy on this and I don't really want to get a flame going..I am just interested in doing whats best for my pup. So how often should I give him nutrical? The breeder told me she gave him 3 times/day. Is that wrong? Also, should i cut the treats? Does how much I feed him affect his final size as a full grown? |

| There is no reason to give nutrical on a daily basis if the pup doesnt need it. He is at healthy fine weight. Nutrical should be given to puppies that are not gaining properly, not eating properly or being introduced to stress situations example; car rides, vet visits, groomers ect. A quality diet should be enough. |

| he's not a "teacup" because "teacups" simply doesn't exist except at 3pm when it's time for tea... "teacup" is just a marketing term fabricated and used by some breeders to describe extremely small dogs as if it some sort of "designer breed", so as to justify the premium the breeder is asking for the dog. but yorkies under 3lbs full grown are simply yorkies at the smaller end of the standards scale. with that being said, i've been feeding my pup 2x a day. once at 9am and once at 6pm. since he's picky about his food, i only use kibbles as treats for training, maybe a handful throughout the day. i let him eat as much as he likes for about 10 minutes during meal time but will cap him off at 1/2 cup (per the package food instructions) for the day. overall, he'll eat a little over 1/4 cup of kibble and drink about 3-4 oz of water per day. we go out for a 30-60 min walk everyday except for rainy days and an hour or two of indoor playtime at 10-15 min sessions. the rest of the time he spends sleeping in his crate or lounging on my lap. week 11 weight is 3.2 lbs at the pace of .2 lbs per week since week 8. i expect him to fall between 6 to 8 lbs when fully grown. perhaps rather than to put your pup on a "diet" and restrict his intake, you can exercise him longer and more often. |
