| Newbie Hi everyone. I just registered as a new member after finding the site through a Google search. I am a new mom to a male yorkie puppy named Dexter. He was 8 weeks when I got him and he is now 14 weeks old (weighs 2 lbs & 4 ozs). I hope you all don't mind me asking a few questions that might have already been asked before in the past. I didn't have any luck locating the answers so I figured I'd post myself and see if I can get any help/advice. 1) How many times a day should he eat and how much? I've read mixed reviews and I just want to be sure he's getting the right amount of food. 2) I see some give dry or wet food, sometimes both, should I be giving him both? He only eats dry food, Wellness for puppies to be exact. I'm thinking about switching him over to Royal Canine after reading some of the reviews here. This is my first puppy since childhood (in my 30's now) so any advice or helpful tips you guys can give will be greatly appreciated. |

when my oscar was 12 - 26 weeks i was feeding him 3 x per day then switched to 2 x per day. of course the amount varies per dog according to weight but my boy is 7 1/2 pounds @ 9 months and he get a little over a 1/2 cup per day.. with your guy being so tiny @ only 2 pounds maybe feeding 2tbs 4 x per day would work. also a lot of people free feed , especially the tiny ones because you need to prevent low blood sugar. i think royal canin puppy would be a good choice but if you are going switch do it gradually. yes, it is ok to feed wet and dry.. | |
