| It's a slight possibility, but where his blood gasses where normal (I had them do FULL blood work at the ER, nothing left out!), it's unlikely, and I've never seen any indication of a breathing problem with him aside from some minor sinus trouble he had when I first rescued him, which I'm sure was just some "shelter crud" from being in the pound, since it cleared up once we got him on a good antibiotic, and hasn't had any breathing trouble since.

Sounds like love & true destiny! ![]() I know how those special ones take up a good acre or two of land in your heart and own it lock, stock & barrel. I'll sure be praying you find something not so bad to treat.

| I am so sorry your little guy went through something like that. I too would have been beside myself. He surely has found an angel on earth in you. Will keep your little guy and you in my prayers.

I've had a few special ones, but most I built a relationship over time, but then there was my Aiyana who I knew the moment she entered this world (her mother was with me when Aiyana was born) that she would always be my special princess, and I knew the moment I knew of Benjamin that he was ment to be with me forever, never a doubt in my mind! And the bond between us was instant! There's only been 4 dogs in my life that's happened with - Aiyana, Him, and my very special angels, Treasure and Jamie. I've had alot of dogs come and go throughout my life, many of them old rescues that where only with me for a short while before I had to help them across the bridge - There where a few like my dear Portia who instantly bonded to me, but I took time to fall completely for - Benjamin I knew was ment to be mine from moment 1!

| I was wondering how in the world you were doing!!! I am glad you got this little Benji under control...how in the world is Moose....I lost track of how Moose was doing....I hope he healed enough for his owner to take control of his medical care and decisions that need to be made for him by his owner.....Lordy, I do not know how you go from one train wreck into anothewr....I would be a frazzled wreck....guess that is why I dont do rescues! My heart and soul and nerves are not up to the task.... |

| Ya, after this happened I was such a mess I needed a bit away from the computer to deal with it and pull myself back together, so close to loosing Portia to epilepsy it really threw me through a loop! Moose is doing MUCH better. We did the final closing on him a week ago yesterday, he'll have staples on until this coming Sunday to make sure it's all the way healed! His hair isn't growing back very well, but he's eating/drinking/peeing normally again and normal stool again finally - so I've told his dad I highly recommend he continue with my vet since she knows Moose and will be fair on prices and get some money set aside to have him checked for Thyroid and Cushings, I wanted to do the thyroid test at least for him - but now feel like I need to be as careful as I possibly can be so I don't have to worry about paying for Benjamin! Thankfully I put insurance on him the day I got him, so insurance will cover a lot of the major expenses, but depending on the specialists and the clinics they work for that I may have to use to get to the bottom of things, I may have to pay upfront and wait for reimbursement which will make things a bit difficult while I'm waiting for reimbursement! But I have friends that'll help me if they know I can repay as soon as I get an insurance check - and a lot of the specialty clinics I've used will take payment straight from the insurance company if they know your dog is insured! I'm so glad I insured him - and we're past the 30 day wait! So they should cover the majority and allow me to do whatever my vets and I feel is best for Benjamin!!!

| Are they sure it wasn't an allergic reaction? Something very similar happened to Ellie a couple weeks ago. You can read about it in the ER section. It is being diagnosed as an acute reaction. My vet was thinking heart at first too. Just a thought...

| Hmmm, well, it's possible I guess! Just spoke with my regular vet about this and her other thought is it's related to his breathing trouble - whatever vet extracted teeth didn't do a good job, so he does have sinus issues related to that, occasionally making him cough or sneeze - especially if he drinks water to fast. It's hard to say.

| So let me see if I understand. You have had three with epilepsy? That's just so odd. Could it be anything environmental? Food? Well water? Treats? I had a dog that use to have seizures if he ate Pupparoni treats. Just wondering, please understand, I'm in no way saying it's anything you are doing wrong.

| Well, unfortunately epilepsy is pretty common in my main breed (Italian Greyhounds). Portia I knew was epileptic when I took her (she was IG and rat terrier). It's always a risk when taking a rescue - a good number of my mill rescue IGs have epilepsy . My Treasure was a mill momma.

| I'm a hopeless dog lover! I've learned a lot about epilepsy through my Iggies. My Aiyana is epileptic - but so far we've been able to control it through diet, herbs, flower essences, and homeopathy. I just keep a small amount of rectal Valium in case he has a bad seizure or clusters - but only had to use it once. Most of the time she does great and only has seizures every few months without medications.

| Is there any chance at all he got into some medicine of yours before you left home? Maybe some of it dissolved in his mouth before he spit it out, just enough to hit him hard & then he roused once the excitement of the E.R. clinic? I was just checking in to see how he was doing after his syncopal episode. Is he acting okay since? And how are you doing?

| I posted an update yesterday, he's doing great, hasn't had a problem since. He went to the cardiologist yesterday, his EKG and echo where both perfect. The cardiologist and neurologist we consulted with while I was there both advised me that I should watch him before risking anesthesia to do an MRI to rule out further problems unless it happens again or gets worse.

On this thread? I can't see it. Is there another thread on him dated yesterday? If there is, what is the title - haven't seen it. But glad to hear his tests were negative! Glad to hear it - that's encouraging!
