Gail, I know you addressed Linda, but I wanted to answer also. For my boys, I typically do chicken and butternut squash. Sweet potatoes were my staple until recently. I add veggies to the mix. My Daisy also has the squash, and some veggies (she can't tolerate carrots), and she has chick peas in her diet. All have oils - usually omega 3s, although this represents a departure from the diet as written. My female also has omega 3s.

I sometimes change up meat. Last night, I gave two of the boys salmon rather than chicken. I also change for turkey. I don't vary all that much, but there is room for variation.

These are generic diets Dr. R made up while she was in Boston, and they may be of interest to you to take a look at. In fact, maybe they will work for your crowd without needing a consult etc. There is a cat recipe as well.

I have ordered the Balance It supplement and worked out a couple of diets on Dr. Remillard's site. The cost is so worth it to me to make sure that Katie's diet is well-balanced. I have tried Missing Link, but looking at the link from vet nutritionists on the Balance It site, it seems like so many from top vet schools and hospitals are recommending Balance It. My question is how different would Dr. Remillard's diet would be for a healthy three year old vs. the one using the Balance It's recipe generator? Both diets use BalanceIt as a supplement, and they seems so similar. Without a doubt if there were health issues, the services of a vet nutritionist is crucial. Can you call Dr. Remillard with questions if you get one of the diets for a healthy dog? I thought I'd get more than one recipe if I want to change things around a little bit for Katie, but the Recipe Generator at BalanceIt allows me to do that also. At one point, BalanceIt must have charged for their recipes, but now it seems they only charge if you don't purchase their supplements.

I have Balance it diets as well, and I like Dr R's better. They are not that different. I think it's a preference. I bought balance it diets when they did charge, and I have them both with the balance it product and with the human supplements. I do not use human supplements, it's a pain to cut the vitamin and I just find BI to be very easy.

A few people here who have bought petdiets recipes have emailed Dr R and gotten responses from her. You have to remember for $25 you're not paying for a consult. If you wanted something more in depth, you could do a consult with her for $50 at the University of North Carolina where she now works. That gets you a half hour phone call. If you wanted diets made it's extra ($100).

I can say that I email her regularly and she's always so helpful. Granted I am a consult client having done two formal consults for medical issues and buying diets for Teddy and Winston thru her site but from what others have told me she is always helpful with modulating the diets.

Her fees are so reasonable, and if it offers me something different than what the recipe generator gives me, I am happy to pay her fee. I want to do everything possible to keep Katie healthy.

No we do not require a Vet Consult for an intact dog. The Healthy Pet module equations were written for a neutered pet. If you wish to use the module depending on the age, breed and femalevs. male, you can multiple the recipe by a factor.

I'm currently following the paleo eating plan. I tossed dairy, soy, legumes, and grains from my diet. Got tired of being enslaved to allergy and asthma meds. Tossed those as well.

I can attest that I do.

I worry about their calories and fat and protein, just the same as I worry about mine.

The only reason I am not home cooking for my dogs right now is because I am too exhausted for medical reasons. As soon as I'm done with all this cancer bull crap, my dogs are being fed home cooked.

Right now, I have cut out red meat and am doing herbal supplements to help with my immune system while doing chemo. I am already gluten free (because of an allergy) and am slowly working myself into farm raised eggs, and dairy, and organic farm fresh veggies. I honestly believe all the "extra" stuff that's added to foods is what's making us and our pets have so many issues now days.

We read about this and planned to adapt it to our needs before we found out about the cancer. I have cut out red meat (red meat feeds cancer cells) and any meat we do eat is farm raised, grass fed and no hormones. But other than that, if I can't pick it, shoot it, catch it, or otherwise gather it myself, I don't eat it.

I am so guilty of this! I do a lot of research when it comes to Toki's diet and health but I'm more lax with my own! I'm not out of shape or super unhealthy but I definitely don't do so much research with my own food. I know what I should be eating but I ain't giving up my weekly chocolate chip frappes and I couldn't stand to eat quinoa in place of my white rice all the time. I know a lot of people have issues with GMO foods and hormones and whatnot in their foods but honestly it's not something I've spent nearly as much time doing research on (I know I should be better educated about these things!).

I think it's a little different when you have a pup that's dependent on you to make these decisions for them so I just felt more obligated to make a more informed decision when it came to picking out her food and making sure she gets the appropriate amount of exercise (these are things that any responsible pet owners should do anyway IMO). With that being said, having Toki has been great for getting me to go outside and exercise more! The diet thing is a whole other story haha! But I'm working on it!

My parents are the evil super candy fun everything your mon doesnt let you do super awesome buy it for you NOW grandparents...

Once they surprised us with McD ( my mom loves to say look it has apples and you can get milk with it...ughrrrr!) Anyways a nugget hit the ground and Elvis went for it

I flew across the room like a matrix movie, I explained he couldn't eat it, my mom goes uou and your dogs not eating off the floor I'll just put it in his bowl.

I said no he cant eat that junk its so bad...and proceeded to get my son one of mine for his lost one... Maybe not oh well I'm honest LoL.

Shameful, but I admit it. We all comprimise how much when and why aren't always excuses but survival right?


Aside from that GMOs are banned in my house.
We eat organics like 80%
We eat a lot of raw foods.
Not much here is prepackaged or synthetic dyes, preservatives etc.

We beleive in whole grains not bleached with chemical vitamins added.
We also buy local, eat free ranging hormone free etc

Dairy here is always organic.

I don't get the drama either. I read the book and I was not impressed. And it isn't more for an unaltered dog. Indeed, tiring.
