Latte was up all night, wanting to go potty. Then this morning she was scooting and twirling like mad! Her belly was hard, and I know she had gas, so I think the HP food is bothering her. SO...now I am even more convinced that I may have to do the VARL testing. I am sick of trial and error. Also, I suspect the scooting could be a UTI...didn't you say that Teaka had one? Also, the black flakes-Latte has them on her arms and legs-you're right-they're hard to get off and they're not fleas. I hope I can talk to Dr. Dan today. She seems fine now-(Sure-now that I'm up! She's lying peacefully in bed with DH.) I have to get ready for work...another Day of Mystery. I feel like I'm on an episode of House for dogs.

| I have to type this from my phone as my work computer sucks. Excuse the spelling mistakes. Teaka had the black flakes on her back. They were pretty big and would end up looking like tar, smeared on a tissue. Normally, id comb her then bathe her to get them out completely. Teaka started to itch again yesterday. Great..... I think it might be the new food. I did forget her pills Monday. I'll see how she is when I get home. Teaka never had a UTI I don't think just skin infections and ear infections. Id try the atopica again, LID food, zyrtec or claritin and bathe latte every week. See how that goes. It's somewhat working for Teaka. Minus our little setback yesterday. ( I really hope its not her food). Hope Latte feels better. Let me know now it goes. Kelly

I talked to the vet today. He is going to see if we can have the VARL testing. He's not sure because they use a certain lab for allergy testing and he has to ask the other vet at the practice to see if we can use VARL. I cannot use the other allergy testing because it will require Latte to be off the prednisone for 4-6 weeks. She will scratch herself bloody by then. I am afraid to do it because it may come back negative on everything, but I have to have some answers. He was very sympathetic to my plight!

Hi ladies, Just wondering if you don't mind sharing the name of the shampoo that has worked wonders for your furbabies. Is it ketoconozole shampoo and you said it was avail at Petsmart? My Toby also has the itchies but in his case he does have a flea or two. He loves the outdoors and picks them up when he goes outside to play but as soon as he comes in I comb him with the flea comb and he is on flea preventative. I talked to the vet the other day and he stated that I could give Toby children's Benadryl 2 times a day. I haven't had a chance to try that out yet. Have any of you tried the Benadryl. I know some of you mentioned the claratin. Haven't tried that either. I think my lil boy is allergic to the flea bites cause even after I bathe him and has no fleas he will scratch like crazy. I am so glad to hear your furbaby is getting some relief!!!

I'm so happy that you are able to figure out how to help your little one!!! I too, am in the same situation, but with a chihuahua. He has environmental allergies, it also took me a while to figure this out and admit to myself that he was going to be a high maintenance chihuahua . He use to itch himself until he'd bleed all over. He chews off all the hair that he can reach. When I put him in shirts he would scratch until there were holes. I couldn't sleep at night, because all I heard was scratch, scratch, scratch, never ending scratch. He is currently on Allegra, he refuses to eat benadryl, claritin and zyrtec he's smart enough to know that after he takes these pills they make him drowsy, he eats the Allegra like it's candy. He also takes probiotics. He get's soaked in a baking soda bath once or twice a week, depending on his condition. The only steroid the vet and I will give him is a lotion, Resicort hydrocortisone, I only use it if he has a very serious flare up (April this year). I use Dermagic Hot spot Salve for serious areas and everyday I use California Baby Calendula Cream. He loves the outdoors so He wears clothing almost everyday. He gets sweaters on days when the itches are bad. He gets only real meat for treats. He is fed Partial Raw and Orijen Regional Red. Every morning when I wake up I can tell if it's going to be a bad day or a good day by how swollen his eyes are.

Also, the vet told us that 1 flea bite can cause a dog to itch for 3 weeks. That is why we fight to stay flea free here. I HATE FLEAS and I'm sure you do, too!
