Riley had a reaction to the Primal Lamb 1 Attachment(s) I have been feeding Riley the Primal Premade Frozen Raw Nuggets [CHICKEN....] and he has been looking GREAT!! Cleared his skin right up. I ran out so I went and bought a bag of the Lamb Wednesday night. I gave it to him for Dinner Wed. night and both meals yesterday. This is how he looked, this morning!!!! :( :thumbdown Like the Pink Panther!! The ONLY different ingredient in it is the Lamb. I gave him his FROMM kibble for breakfast, this a.m. with 1/2 a Benadryl and then cleaned his ears real well, because the last time he had a bad reaction to something his ears got real infected. I think he was already starting to look better after an hour of the Benadryl. |

Hope he feels better soon. Well so far oscar and kaiah are doing great on the natures variety raw. Today i got two more bags . Lamb , beef formulas so i can alternate.. Hope riley feels better soon.. |

and he has definitely eaten the TOTW kibble with the Lamb...!! Do you think he just suddenly now is allergic to it?? |
Oh poor Riley how uncomfortable for him:( I think they can develop allergies just like we can. Hope it clears up quick. Keep us posted. |

but i guess dogs can develop allergies just like us.. |

I'm so sorry your both (cuz I know you feel awful too) going through this. I hope it clears up fast, give the little guy a tummy rub for me! |
Poor baby. |
"Thankfully" he is running around acting completely normal.... playing and all.... I didn't even realize he looked like that until I was getting into the shower. We went through this Same thing, last May... but it was from something he walked over..... The vet didn't do anything for him, except told me to give him 1/2 a Benadryl twice a day. If he still looks really bad when I get home, today I am taking him in to the vet. I just need to make sure it doesn't turn to staph or something else..... I Loooooooooooooove My Lil' Boy Soooooooooooo Much!!!! It breaks my heart to think he may be uncomfortable!!!! :( I will not be able to get home fast enough today!! |
AWWWWWWWWW poor Riley :( :( :( |
Yes your day will drag. I sure hope he clears up a little by the time you get home |

OMG I sooooo know what you mean! I find they often want to give steroids right away but now have found, like you, give some benadryl and if its not better when I get home from work go to vet - but its the "I can't think all day" until I get home! Just letting you know I've been where you are too many times to count, some people who see that pic might think you should rush him now but I know you are an experienced allergic pet owner like me! Good luck getting through the day hope it goes by fast. I'm sure he'll be fine, keep us posted. |

I "Think" it was already starting to look better when I left for work....Last thing I did was check his underneath, at the window in the sun! lol He last ate it at around 6:30, last night..... |
I just called Primal and the Rep. said I could take the bag back to the store for a refund. I'll get a back of the chicken, which is what he just finished. |
Hmmm, Odd! Poor thing! Do you think it was even the food? He couldn't have rolled in anything, or eaten anything else that could've caused the reaction? Seems odd, just like you said, he's eaten it before. But I'm glad he's feeling better! |

Poor Riley. Maybe he is just sensitive to lamb. I would definitely write down the lot #, and report it to their Corporate office - just in case there is/was something wrong w/ the lot, and not with the lamb itself. |
Wow that's horrible and such a severe reaction, make sure you always have an antihistamine with you. Glad he's doing better, but you should know, allergies can get worse each time they are exposed. |

I asked the Primal Rep. if she thought it could be the Lamb since that is the only thing different in both the Lamb and Chicken formulas. She said it could actually be "anything" in there inasmuch as even though what is listed in the Chicken and Lamb is the same it may not necessarily be the same...if that makes sense. She said that that is why they tell people to stick with one protein bag at a time, and then switch when the bag is finished.... but that if he had a reaction to the bag of Lamb that I should probably stay away from it! |

Have you tried any other varietys or you just gonna stick with the chicken? Primal has a lot more flavors than natures variety.. |

I did a bag of Venison.... a bag of Turkey/Sardine and I think we have done Duck, but I can't remember. I am pretty sure we also did Lamb, and he had no reaction.... but it has been at least 6 months. |

No... we weren't out long because it had been raining. That is a good point....!! because he has had the Lamb, before.... I am going to write the lot # down and call them again, with it. She did ask me to give her the lot # off the bag, but I had called her from work. She said I didn't really need to have it... and to just take the bag back to the store for a full refund. |

But if a bag of the Primal Lamb takes a month to eat, wouldn't there have been some sort of sign before if he were allergic before? Are they like us, who can be okay with it and then suddenly not. I had taken penicillin before for strep throat with no problem, then suddenly, I had a really really BAD allergic reaction to it another time and I am never to take it again. He did have a bought of what the vet said was environmental allergies from something he walked over, back in May.... but I don't remember if he was eating the Primal Lamb at that time.....?!?! It is all very interesting to me!! It is scary!! I am leaving work now. Hoping he will be much better... if not, we are heading to the vet!! :) |

I feed Nature's Instinct Raw and I decided to try Primal just for a change. My little one got sick. I took her to the vet and she checked her urine and said she had never seen a normal PH with so many crystals in it before. The only thing that had changed was the food switch. I went back to NI and within two weeks (along with meds and cranberry powder) she was back to normal. I emailed Primal and the head honcho said he would reimburse me for the food and to fax him the vet bills and he would decided if they should pay them also. Guess what? He never did either and never emailed me back. I wouldn't feed Primal even if it didn't make my little one sick!!! NI is 95% meat as opposed to Primal which I believe is only 70% meat. |

My dogs are on the natures variety instinct raw and they are doing great.... |
Mine can't eat lamb generally. It has always given mine GI issues. I stick with chicken as their base protein but will give others as a topper. |
Poor Riley, glad he is doing better. When Jack allergies were acting up earlier first part of spring he got real pink like Riley. Maybe not as bad. I felt so bad for him. I had rx from vet and gave to him cause the scratching also was bad. I felt so bad for him and couldn't do anything till the rx kick in. I took a wet cool rag and held it on his under side and it seem to help him. I didn't like the effect the rx had on him(made hime very drowsy) so I gave him the Benadryl the next day. It seem to not make him as drowsy but a little bit. Does the Benadryl make Riley drowsy? |

I am definitely going to keep a list of what was in it. Nope... no new detergent or rug cleaner or floor cleaner. Nothing new cept' the Primal Lamb. |
