Bought a DREMEL and LOVE it!!! We received our Dremel tool for nail filing in the mail a few days ago! I was waiting to bring it to my vet for instruction on how to safely use it(she offered) but had to TRY IT OUT :happyboun I have to say we  it!!! I did all 4 of Sugar's paws in about 60 seconds!! I did not go very short or use it for very long bursts of time and used it only on low speed. I basically wanted to see how well she would tolerate it. She fell asleep (or at least had her eyes closed :D):thumbup: |
Wow! I'm impressed. I think my lil girl would have run for the hills.:D |

She had absolutely no problem at all and she does NOT like her feet messed with as a rule  |
I have a Dremel for pets which is a little too forceful for me on a dog Tibbe's size so I got the Pedipaws (without the plastic housing over the head because Tibbe's toes are so small) which is easier for me to control than the pet Dremel. It takes about 2 minutes to do all ten nails, much of that time just isolating each toenail and repositioning him, etc. If the file comes off the nail, you file the little pad below the toenail so I am very cautious to be sure I put my thumb in place over each pad so I can't accidentally hurt a pad. It doesn't cause it to bleed or split or anything but you can see a roughened spot. Anyway, it is just the ticket for Tibbe and me and so much less scary than the nail clipper! |
Wow! She fell asleep!! She must of thought she was having a manicure and it was relaxing! :) |

I'm glad I did!!!:thumbup: It was quiet and gentle (on low) and cheaper than the pet Dremel!! Pedipaws was a PITA for me....... |

I've been wanting to try one of these w/ Jackson... I HATE clipping his nails. He's actually gotten a lot better at tolerating me messing with his feet but others doing it, he STILL hates!! And it sucks cuz I really like a dog to have short nails, but I always end up not keeping up with them because I dread clipping them and think I am going to mess up and cut them too short, etc. So is Dremel the brand name?? Does it make it so that it's not as easy to cut into the quick? |
I don't cut my girls. I send them to the groomers.:D That way SHE is the bad guy! Not me!!! :p:p |

When I used to do sculptured nails, they used to shape them with a thing like a Dremel...they used to be very careful because your nail will heat up while they are grinding it to the shape you are wanting....they have to grind a little and stop, then start again...I am reading all these posts and your pets all seem to be tolerating it so I dont guess this is an issue with these grinders and dog nails....you might just want to be aware of that happening with sculptured nails so if your baby is pulling her foot away, it may be heating up on her too. |
