| Help: Tick Bite I found a tick on my baby, Happy. I removed the tick...I think I removed all of it. But, the area is all red, swollen, and hard. Is this normal? I have never had a tick problem with any of my dogs. This is my first tick pulling! Happy's eating and drinking fine, but she's shaking and shivering as if she's scared. I'll be taking her to the vet later today just to get her checked because she's shaking so much. But just wanted to know if anyone else experienced something similar? |

| Yes, that is normal, and may take a few weeks to go away completely. The shaking is not normal.

| Because of the mild winter here in the northeast this year I kept my dogs on Frontline Plus all season. I have heard reports that the tick & flea season never really slowed down this year. Was the tick engorged? You may not have gotten all of it if it was. You could try cleaning the sore with a little hydrogen peroxide. I would then make an appointment with the vet and have your dog checked for Lyme disease. Hope your baby is OK in no time. |

The tick was engorged. I had to pull hard to get it out of her. I hope it's nothing serious. I heard mixed opinions on Lyme vaccine | |

| I'm glad you were able to get the tick off... The shaking sounds odd to me. I'm glad you are getting her into the vet. We don't do the lyme vaccine because we don't have a huge problem with ticks around here, but some people do because of where they live.

| It seems like I have pulled a million ticks off of Callie and they were small ones so we got the the lyme vaccine because even if its not 100% effective at least it can help some and lyme is painful. I used frontline but here it doesn't seem to work so I use advantix and it works great but I still do a tick check every night. Whenever I would pull a tick off of Callie it would leave a little red itchy bump that would be there a few days and then go away.
