| Do you think i am feeding my boy enough? Oscar eats 1/2 cup each day divided by 2 meals He eats "Now Fresh" Grain Free Small Breed. Although he is gaining weight steadily each week I fear i am not feeding him enough sometimes. What do you think? Any words of wisdom are appreciated... | How old is he? Does Oscar get any other treats? ZoE gets about 3/4 cup per day, but I divide it into 3 unequal portions. She gets about 1/2 of that in the morning, a 1/3 of that for dinner, and whatever smidge is left over before bed. She also gets a combination of carrots, grean beans, cheese, peanut butter or yogurt smeared in a Kong, (not all, just varies day-to-day) as a treat for going potty on her pads or sitting well for daily grooming, etc. ZoE is about 7 1/2 pounds though, so a big pup!

Since Oscar is a pup (they need more calories and food while growing), and based on his weight, and comparing to my boys during the first year of age, I think you could go as high as 3/4 cup.

I figured oscars diet and it suggests 0.69 cups which is about 3/4 cup. I will put him back on 3 meals a day but 1/4 cup each. Thanks again | |

| I just asked this to my dr last Tuesday. Sheldon is 3 lbs, I had him on 1/2 a cup now puppy but lately seems to be wanting to eat more. I suggested maybe 3/4 cups? and she said it would be too much for him. Sheldon does not get any other food or treats. Oscar is twice the size of Sheldon so I think maybe 1/2 a cup isn't enough for the guy. Oh, just noticed you got it figured out. I should read the whole thread before I reply lol Last edited by Sheldonsmom; 03-11-2012 at 10:24 AM. |

| Jilli Ann, my six month old eats 1/2 cup food twice daily, but I home cook, which shouldn't make any difference I wouldn't think. She's 3 pounds 6 ounces and isn't gaining but isn't losing. I think she's going to be small. Maybe feed your boy three times a day, 1/4 or 1/3 cup each time.

| 1/2 cup seems fine to me for an adult dog that size. But for a pup, he may need more. Jackson is 3 and very active and gets 2/3 cup per day (1/3 AM, 1/3 PM - both with a bit of wet food mixed in, as well as treats, etc). Oh and it's a 430kcal/cup food.
