YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Intelligent Exercise - Guardian of Health I've reviewed a video I bought months ago, after taking a seminar by Dr. Christine Zink, DVm,PhD. It is entitled Building the Canine Athlete. A wonderful, clear and concise descriptive of exercises for your pup, split into categories called; strength, endurance, stretch, and proprioceptive. A must have for any performance dog enthusiast. But I encourage all folks who like to find different ways to interact with their pup, to purchase this video. It can be purchased at www.caninesports.com One exercise' the first time I've seen this particular one transferred to doggydom they call Snoopy: Snoopy is where your dog stands on only two legs which are diagonally opposite to each other. ie the Right front leg, and the back left leg. In the beginning you train your pup, with using blocks of an appropriate height for your dog. The height of the blocks should not exceed be higher than their elbows. For Yorkies I'd start out with perhaps a one inch or 1.5 inch height. You place the diagonal paws on the blocks - the blocks should be apart enough that your pup can stand with front leg directly under their shoulder, and back leg directly under their pelvis. The other two legs go on the floor. Now your dog needs to balance. Work up to 15 seconds per side and repeat 3x. Don't overdo this, as it is a muscular challenge for your dog. Try this exercise prox 3x per week. After 3-6 mths you should be able to feel a nice build up of muscles over their shoulder area and hip area. The advanced version of this is to have the dog standing, and you yourself lift up their diagonal legs. While the video showed doing this from the ground. For Yorkies I'd suggest a table height and a non slip surface. Just put a rubber mat - bath mat would do on your table and work with your pup this way.

| EXCELLENT, gemy!! I have scheduled play and exercise time daily for my babies, ALL my babies, including the "Ladies and Gentlemen of Rosehill (breeding dogs)....I have areas of my large back yard set up for specific targeted exercises, then another area is for nothing but play and fun. I start ALL my newborns out with the "Super Dog" Bio-Sensor neurological exercises.....they are simple and the Military as well as Dr.Carmen Battaglia utilize the "Bio Sensor" exercises for the benefits they have produced. This video you have shared, will certainly add to my exercise program for my young pups, building muscle tone and balance for all my dogs. This will lead to a better chance of injury free play and every day well being. Thank you for this info! |
