| Scared with the Honking I know what it is just can't spell trachea right. It colaspes sometimes. Last night I woke up to Chloe struggling to breath, I got real scared this time, yes it worked itself out but what if it doesn't, Does this happen to anyone else? I'm afraid he is going to stop breathing. I spoke to the vet she says they have that problem and she doesn't make a big deal of it, but I do he struggles and I am ready to cry. It happens a few times a week maybe once or twice, last night and just now. He's fine now running around and eating. I give him small dry dog food and his yummies are very small, so he's not choaking on anything. Thanks for your help and reading this.

| How scary, good thing you brought this up. Mine honks when she scarfs down her food or drinks too fast. I'll bump this so we can get more info on this. I can't tell the difference between a collapsed trachea and choking. |

| thanks its real hard to tell the difference, but I really don't think there is one. If they are struggling to breathe its bad.

| Are you sure this is collapsing trachea? It usually does not just go away like that. Perhaps it is a reverse sneeze? Take a look at the following.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3815650-post6.html

| yes that could be but he makes a sound like that when he wants my attention. this is a different sound. He sounds like he's having trouble getting his breath.

| Has your vet heard it? If not, then perhaps you should video him doing it so the vet can see.

| Reverse sneezing is not really as bad as it sounds. Here is a link that explains it: Reverse Sneeze - What is a "reverse sneeze"?

| I am used to it now. You can massage his neck when it happens and he might stop.

| We have dealt with this for awhile with Kayla. Collasped Treachea is very serious. My vet will only do surgery as a last resort. We try to keep Kayla's weight down, which is important. We keep her cool and never let her get so excited she starts to have an attack if we can. We run a humidifer for her at night which really helps her breathing. Like Ladyjane said, you can massage their throat very easy up and down and try to get them to relax and it helps stop the attack. I know they must be so scared. THink how scary it is not to be able to get your breath or breathe and thats what they go through. Your vet can test her and see to what extint it is. Hope your baby does better, its scarey seeing them go through this. One of my friends lost her baby to CT. |
