I had a shih tzu that was vegan for greater that 10 years. He lived 17 years and never had anything but his routine shots and visits. He ate Avoderm vegitarian food and never left a bit on his plate. The only meat he would occasionally steal a bite or so from the others was ground turkey. I tried for years to find some meat he would consistently eat but no luck. Avoderm kept him healthy.

This is kind of OT but i agree with you about the hormones and antibiotics in our factory farmed meat today. However there are ways around it without becoming vegetarian/vegan. Here in Toronto there are butchers, and farmer's markets and many farms in the surrounding area where quality meat, grass fed, free of hormones and antibiotics etc are available to us. I'll be stocking up come summer. The difference between them in terms of taste are night and day, not only to me but to Lexie .

Remember that fruits and vegetables are heavily sprayed with pesticides and toxins too.

It took months to find a new kibble she would eat to get her on the Blue. Tried TOTW, wellness, evo, nature balance, various proplan blends ( my preferred blend), etc.

Right now she keeps eating extra tidbits (tops of 10 pieces) from Buddy's bowl which is Proplan Performance. Prior to her spaying she was eating this Proplan forumula but after her spay she refused to eat it. Hopefully she will start to eat more of the Proplan. He gets some fish oil mixed in with his kibbles. So far her bowels seem to be okay. He doesn't mind her sharing a bowl with him and will even step back and give it to her.

I'm planning to switch the other yorkies back to Proplan for simplicity.

Have you tried what Brit suggested, exercising her a bit more to see if it will trigger her appetite. I know Lexie has been picky lately, turned out it was due to me taking extra hours at work and not exercising her as much.

Hopefully she comes around and starts eating soon, keep in mind that the fresh vegetables you're giving that are tasty,sweet,juicy etc are totally different from offering vegetable kibble . She might not want that either, good luck.

She gets exercise daily. She is not really into playing. A few times a day she will play with the other dogs. She still her normally personality. She walks like the little gingerbread girl. She walks a total of 1-2 miles daily over 3-4 walks. When she does not want to walk anymore I will pick her put for a few minutes and then put her back down to walk again and she will start walking again. Most of the time I think it is because her feet get cold. She will not wear boots. There has been not recent changes in her activity level.

The other yorkies are getting less excerise because normally the retrieve and play outside but other than their walks and to go potty they don't want to be outside.

I looked on the Avoderm website I can only find it as Canned vegetarian. Does it come in kibble form too?

The canned may be perfect though to try mixing with her kibble instead of pureed veggies. I will have to call local pet stores to see if they have it.

I had a vegetarian dog that lived to 18 and very healthy. She was born with hip displaysia so she eventually couldn't go to the bathroom very well because she couldn't stand or squat to poop without struggling a lot. It was only toward the end that it was bad, but she didn't need anything other than routine vet check ups and shots her whole life.

Our other vegetarian dog was 13, and she died of brain tumors. She was a very healthy and active Husky. She was active till the day she had to be put down. Both of them were larger dogs. One was 45 lbs and the other was about 55 lbs. We had both of them since they were puppies.

All of our dogs are vegetarian or vegan depending on what type of dog food we could get. We often used Nature's Recipe, Natural Balance, and we did do a homemade vegan diet too. It was a complete diet with supplements that we had to add to the recipe and it was formulated according to AAFCO standards. I liked that one a lot, but I got too busy to make the food. It was called Vege-Dog (Vege-Pet), and I know it's still for sale online. There is a new one called V-dog, but I haven't tried it yet.
