| Strudel had a bout of direahea and the vet has him on chicken rice and pumpkin till he finishes his meds. Well.... Mr. Super Picky has never been so happy!!! I've never seen him enjoy his food so much, he licks the bowl clean!!! I'm afraid he will never go back to kibble, it was already very difficult to get him to eat - I had to mix wet and a tiny smudge of cream cheese for him to even get close to it. Is the chicken and rice with pumpkin something I can feed him forever? He also has me sprinkling a packet of probiotics on his food. I love seeing him be excited about his meal and I liked the idea of knowing exactly what's in his food. I also notice he is not flatulent like he usually his on his regular food.

| You wouldnt be able to feed it without suppliments its not nutritionally balanced for a dog. If you are going to homecook for him every day its good to get a recipe from a nutritionalist. There is a real good book you can get that goes into what you need to suppliment to homecook and the ratios it is Dr Pitcairns guide to animal health you can get it on amazon. I looked into it and wanted to do it but it sounded like too much of a hasstle to me but others were doing it

| Poor Strudel (and you!)... when Sophia had diarrhea, I couldn't tell who felt worse, her for having to deal with it, or me for having to clean it up since she couldn't make it outside . I had some trouble getting Sophia to eat her food too, I used to have to mix it with water. We eventually ended up on Blue buffalo basics (she loves it!! and it's about the only thing that won't upset her stomach). Maybe Strudel might be more fond of a different brand/flavor of kibble? I don't know anything about feeding them chicken and rice forever.. but Sophia has probiotics sprinkled on her meal at dinner. You can tell that she LOVES it (much more than without the probiotics)! So, maybe when/if you do go back to kibble, the probiotics might make it taste delicious and perhaps you can continue using them? I know Sophia has been on probiotics for months because of how much it benefits her.

| oh my.. i remember when Brandy went through that.. it was like almost 2 weeks before she got better.. the vet had recommended to do the wet anad dry mix.. I do healthy extention chicken and science diet kibble.. and it finally stoped the direahea...so you can ask your vet if that will work for you.. I also used the probiotics.. till she was eatting it on her own..good luck

| Thanks you guys so much!!! I love this site have to say ![]() Chachi, Yes I figured that there would be more to it, I am scared to do that too. I would be afraid I'm missing some of his essential nutrients and hurt him later on in life so I definitely agree with u there.Sophia's mom and Baby Teddy - Yes I felt soooooo bad!!! I was so scared because he looked weak and sad (( I definitely shed a few tears. And yes had a few messes to clean up He had solid poo today but I'm still going to finish up his meds since it's an antibiotic. And continue the plain diet until meds are done-5 more days.Yes I noticed the probiotics smelled really good and he scarfs it down. I will definitely try continuing that, plus again, no gas!! ![]() Newyorks Brandy, I will have to check into that extension chicken. The direahea, luckily, is over it seems now. Since he would have cleaned his system of all foods except for the clean chicken and rice, couldn't I now change his food? I was thinking of starting Weruva since it looks and smells like real food. And I could surely sprinkle the probiotics on that.... What do y'all think?
