| Free feeding...? I used to free-feed Choco until last week, as he was on dry food that we got from our breeder. She gave us a huge bag of dry food, so it lasted over 1.5 months. Since the beginning of this week, I switched to Orijen Red; the feeding instruction recommends 1/3-2/3 cup for inactive dogs 2-12lbs. So I got him on the feeding schedule and gave him about 2/3 cup per day. (He weighs under 3 lbs.) I feed him scrambled egg once a week and extra kibbles of dry food and dog treats as reward during the training throughout the day. For his dinner tonight, I gave him more than what he would normally eat, hoping that he would stop when he's full. In less than 5 minutes, he finished the bowl and now I'm afraid that his belly would pop... He had over 1 cup of dry food throughout the day, including his dinner. Since I feed dry food primarily, I wanted to keep him on free feeding, but I'm afraid that he would eat too much. Should I still try to fill his bowl and let him decide? May be he would control himself once he knows that food is available all the time? I'm also thinking that Orijen Red tastes much better than his old food from the breeder, so his craving may be temporary...? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! | Every yorkie is different. I don't free feed my 2, they're on a strict schedule. If I did I might need to put them on weight watchers. lol. Perhaps someone else has more advice. |
