Gerber water I read in a recent post about Gerber water helping with tearing eyes, so I decided to give it a try. IT WORKS! I can't believe what a difference it has made in just 2 days! :D At Miki's last vet visit I had asked about her eyes tearing all the time & the vet said she didn't feel there was anything wrong with that, it meant that her tear ducts were in good working condition. But, it looks so nice to have her face dry, not to mention Miki hated it when I had to wash & comb her face everyday to prevent the "crusty's". Thanks to whomever it was that shared this info!!! |
That's fantastic! Are you using the little bottles of Gerber Graduates water or the gallon container of nursery water that has the baby's pic on the front? |
I used it for Joey when he was a puppy and it totally worked for him too. One day I noticed his eyes were tearing and I asked my husband if he had given Joey regular filter water, and he admitted he had. I'm so glad he told me the truth or I would have probably thought the distilled water wasn't doing the trick. Within a day of using only Gerber's purified water with no minerals, his eyes weren't tearing. I would experiment once a month and give him regular filtered water and around 11 months he could drink the regular filtered water with no tearing. So this isn't something they will need for the rest of their lives and I do think it has something to do with teething, but the minerals in regular water made Joey's eyes tear. |
This is so interesting. I've never heard of Gerber water; I know the brand, but didn't know about the water. Is it like distilled or purified water, or is there something else that makes it Gerber-y? |

To the OP, your dog is an adult isn't she? |
I bought the gallon size at Walmart for $1. It says it's purified water with minerals added for taste. It also says 0 mg Sodium, & no added fluoride. Miki is 2 yrs 4 months old Nancy 1999. I'm just so glad that it's working! Hope everyone else that trys it has the same kind of results! :cheer: |

There are so many theories on causes of tearing; it's really hard to find a one treatment for all dogs. After the teething period, Joey was tear free for a couple of years, until I did a food switch and then at the time it was a much more serious case of tearing, with brown gunk in his eyes and a beard that was wet all day. In that case, I just switched back to my regular food and it cleared up. By the way, for those interested, this site has more information on some of the causes of tearing. 1 Attachment(s) If you just do a google search in images you will find a picture of the Gerber water. I wasn't aware that there were 2 different kinds...one with minerals & one without. The Walmart where I bought it only carried the one. I was confused as to what I had read in that post because I thought it said "no Minerals", but this is working for Miki. I don't know why, but it is. I wondered if had something to do with the fluoride, but I don't think there is fluoride in bottled water, and that's all Miki got before. Our tap water at home has fluoride added, but I never gave her tap water... the mystery goes on. |

I have been using this for Taycie for awhile now. Along with a food switch she has been Tear Stain free since July! I have in a pinch used regular bottled water of mine for her that I had on hand when I was out of the Gerber. I noticed no reaction. But.. Gerber Water has worked well for us! I Love it! |
Thank you SO much for sharing this! Payslee hates when I try to get her crusty's out of her eye. She's like Mom, do we REALLY have to do this AGAIN! LOL Thanks again for sharing I'm def. gonna try this! |
Thanks for the pic! I'm going to check my local Walmart to see if they carry it. I've only seen the small Gerber Lil Graduates and have been using that. Could be why it's not working. :) |
I'm actually vacationing in sunny FL right now, and had to ask if they had the "Gerber" water because I wasn't seeing it on the shelf... the clerk said no, we don't carry it, but then came back to me & said yes, we have it, right here. I can understand why he couldn't find it...it's not as obvious as you would expect a "Gerber" product to be. |

Just switched my babies to gerber water today. I hope it works for us. I am also giving them gerber puffs as treats, they love it!! We call it " puppy crack" :D |
Abby is being treated for dry eye in one eye. The other is fine but she has the tear stains. After reading this, I may try her on the Gerber water. |

I think I might have to try this. Layla has always had terrible tear stains but they seem to have been getting worse lately. Sometimes I can pull a chunk of brown gunk out before it's dry, but there are alway some right down the sides of her muzzle that are dry and we can't seem to wash it out! |
Found it! Quote:
Thanks for the info on where to find it. I went to the water aisle in Walmart and there it was! I've always looked in the baby section. We started it today! |
We started today as well. Jax does not have bad tearing or red stains but he does have some brown ick. This will be interesting to see how many see improvement! I hope everyone reports back. |

Yay! Glad you found it. Usually the Grocery stores only have it in the baby isle. But at Walmart it is always in the back. Walmart is also the best price for it at $1 gallon. Most the time in grocery stores around here its about $1.32 unless they have it on sale occasionally. Not that the price matters.. I buy it regardless:) |
So happy to read about this! Tessie has a bad problem with tear staining & "eye boogies." I checked a Kroger today that carries almost everything, but they didn't have the Gerber baby water. I checked both the baby aisle & the water aisle. I'm going to check Wal-Mart tomorrow. Thanks for posting & I look forward to reading how this works for everyone. |
It is really amazing how well this works. I do think Fluoride helps strengthen bones but I am not positive about. I know I heard that at one point. |
I am going to try also. I was adding s few drops of apple cider vinegar ..and we used reverse osmoses filtered water. Well the filter broke and sense were moving soon I wanted to just wait and put a new one in our néw house and it seamed the pups did not drink as much with the acv..so I am so happy to read this. One of my dogs is a white shih tuz and I asked the vet about the no more tears... He said it was good but..it is an antibiotic and should nit be used for long periods of time. |
We jumped on the Gerber water wagon yesterday. Teddy has tear stains, Max does not. I think my boys want their yucky tap water back. :p I gave them Aquafina for a long time, until I saw them drinking less and less. When I switched to tap water, they started drinking again. |
