| 13 week old Puppy has issues with food Pickiness and vomiting... My puppy is now 13 weeks old. I purchased about 10 days ago when he was about 11 1/2 weeks He was on a diet of mainly when i got him: 1. Wellness Just for Puppies 2. Innova canned food for adults 3. Stella & Chewy - Duck Duck Goose (a freeze dried raw food) The first day he ate his Innova canned food, but soon stopped. He refuses to touch his Wellness food. He just sniffs it then makes a sighing sound. The only one of the 3 that he likes is the Stella & Chewy. I recently tried giving him Blue Buffalo for small puppies and he seemed to like that. I also have a sample of Lotus for Puppies which he seems to like also. I've tried mixing the Wellness dried food with either of the new choices or the Stella&Chewy and he will pick out only what he wants to eat. I was thinking of having his primary dry food be either Lotus or Blue Buffalo. Are these quality and good foods to keep him on? It's been hard to transition him as he has vomitted after car rides, and I think because of stress from the new environment as well. Also he just got his 2nd shots last week so he was feeling under the weather. He also loves bully sticks but I try not to give it too often. Any recommendations on puppy food or picky eaters? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I don't feed Blue Buffalo but know several people who do and they are happy with it. I'm not familiar with Lotus so hopefully some others will see this and respond.

| For being that young, that's an awful lot of foods! I wouldn't do a ton of switching around, etc. You'll just end up with a super picky dog who has YOU trained and tons of $$$ wasted on foods that you swear your dog won't touch (take it from someone with experience in that department ) Between BB and Lotus, I'd pick Lotus. It's a bit more expensive, at least here, but I really like Lotus and their company -- they even have their own cannery and made one after touring other facilities and decided they wanted to make their own. Makes you wonder what the other canneries look like.... My personal fave brands are Champion (Orijen/Acana) and Fromm. Oh and I also like Petcurean (Go!/Now!).

| Thank you for your replies. Britster haha I think you're right I just want to get him started on something that's good for him (and that he'll actually touch ) then stick with it for the rest of his puppy-hood. So today I gave him the Lotus again and he ate most of it. It's similar in ingredients to BlueBuffalo but it's baked which I think is good. I've heard lots of good things about Orijen maybe that will be what I feed him when he grows up or eats this for a while. Is Orijen what you use? Last edited by YorkieMiki; 01-01-2012 at 07:19 PM. |

| my puppy has been orijen 6 fish since about 4 months. When i first got her at 3 months i was giving her natural balance salmon and sweet potatoe. Both are good but i find the orijen 6 fish has really helped my morkie's coat and they both like to eat it. My yokie also seems to like natural balance vegetarian. i seem to be blessed with a non-piccky eater this time around = ) forgot to add my mom's 2 yorkies have both been on orijen 6 fish for about 6 months and appear to be thriving (and eat it readily) |
