Something's wrong with Bella

You did not alarm us for no reason. It was for a good reason - Bella! She may have been dragging her rear on the floor simply because she needed to go potty. It sounds like her bowels were pretty full. I'm glad you have some answers. The longer you have them, it becomes easier to understand what is wrong. At least, sometimes it is that way.

Bella does not have a UTI. Apparently what is going on is that she's not drinking enough in ratio to her activity, so her urine was very concentrated and when urine is concentrated it's very strong smelling. She always has fresh water several times a day, but she plays her little heart out and spaces drinking...so from now on I have to literally stop her and move her to the water dish until she understands that it's okay to stop playing and drink. He said she'll be fine. This was weird to me because I thought by instinct puppies would know when they need liquids.

He gave her another dewormer "just in case", but said if she continues to drag her bottom, bring her back in for further evaluation along with a stool sample. He gave me a funky little tube-thingy to use. She hasn't done it since, but I don't know why she did in the first place.

Her urine doesn't smell this afternoon.

I guess what bothered me most is her not eating. That can be an indication of pain. Also, I don't know, but giving another dewormer just in case? Is that really safe, if it's something else?

I fully agree, and questioned him about the eating issue pretty adamantly. He said there are 2 loose desidueous (spelling?) teeth in her mouth and that's likely the reason she doesn't want to chomp on her hard kibble. She chowed down the wet food with no issues. He said she wouldn't be so keen on eating that either if it were something else, BUT..to bring her in if we noticed anything. The dewormer was used as a precaution, and it's safe.

Thus far she's acting fine, her potty doesn't smell, and her poopy is normal.

...I hate it when I flip out without knowing first what's going on with her.

Happy to hear that Bella is going to be fine. I think we all flip out when our pups aren't acting right. Did the same thing when my son was young, part of being a good "parent".

Not to hijack your thread BUT I too had a bit of a scare with Romeo and had to rush off to the vet. He was dehydrated and doing better now after some fluids and food.

Yikes! Poor Romeo. I'm glad he is doing better now, though! Bella's doing great tonight. She played like crazy, and was happy to be home and have free reign of "her" livingroom.

She finally got to sleep about ten minutes ago, and I'm right behind her shortly.

She really is fine, but this morning I wasn't so sure. I couldn't believe the smell! This afternoon I was stopping her mid-play and sort of twirling my finger around in her water dish, and she drank quite a bit, but nothing until I sort of encouraged her to drink it. She has more interest in her piggy, squeaker, rope and teddy than sitting around drinking water. As the afternoon turned into evening, she got the idea, and stopped by herself to get a drink; I'm very happy about that.

Great to hear both Bella and Romeo are doing good.

I will have to watch Bella to make sure she is drinking enough.....thanks for sharing your experience.
