| Raw Feeders-How much does your Yorkie weigh and how much do you feed per meal?? Hey all.... Been awhile since I've been on, but would appreciate some feedback. Snickers & Reesie always gobble down their raw, almost as if they are starving!!! THEY LOVE TO EAT!!!! Snick's vet appointment was stellar so I know I am keeping him fed but just wanted to know how much you feed and how much your yorkie weighs just in case I am a little off. Currently I am feeding Bravo Raw. Have fed Primal and also feel the Primal Feeding Calculator suggests less than what I believe to be a full meal. Snickers weighs 4.5lbs and gets 1.3oz of raw per meal. Reesie weighs 6.5lbs and gets 2oz of raw per meal. They both get 2 meals per day and a lunchtime biscuit & raw treats throughout the day. Please also share anything else you may feed for supplemental feeding/snacks/treats. Thanks. Viv

| I don't feed raw but I would just feed according to body condition! Maybe they need a bit more?! Can you feel their ribs easily, do they have a nice 'tuck' under their belly, in good shape? If so, they are probably doing okay, but you could try to up the amount by a bit and then continue to monitor their body condition and if they are gaining, etc. Bravo! makes some nice treats - have you tried those?? They can be pricey though! I did the calculator thing and if I were feeding Bravo! then 16lb Jackson would be eating 6.4 ounces per day.

| Thanks for the responses!! Was hoping more raw feeders would contribute but appreciate the responses received. Brit--I have added a bit more, but I think they just love it so want more. Yes, Bravo treats ROCK. They get them daily. Viv

| I used to feed Lexie Stella and Chewies but don't remember exactly how much because it was very short lived. I feed Prey model raw now so not sure if you wanted to hear from premade raw feeders only..anyway Lexie gets 3.2 oz a day which i feed her morning and evening, she weighs 5.5lbs. Apart from that she gets fish oil supplements and vit e daily, and eggs once a week with oily fish. For treats she gets anything natural with minimal ingredients or freeze dried |

| I feed Sasha Primal raw & she gets 1 1/2 nuggets for breakfast. I feed her half raw & half kibble so on top of the nuggets she gets 1/8 cup of kibble for dinner. When she eats her raw, she eats it like it's going out of style. She really loves it! |

| My 2 teapots weigh 14 lbs each. For breakfast, each one gets 2 nuggets of NV raw. For dinner, they get either NV Prairie kibble or Acana kibble, 1/2 cup each.

| I feed my 5 pound little one Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw. I feed her according to the directions. It says she should get about 2 of the round disks. She always seems to want more but I haven't gone over what they say but I wonder if there is something I could supplement feed her since she seems always to be hungry. This is the only food she really likes. Though I have a feeling she likes it because it is a raw product and it's the only raw brand I have tried. She hates kibble. I don't know much about other raw products. She loves what I'm feeding her and my only concern is the fact that she always seems hungry. She is not thin but I would say on the low side of normal. |

| I gave the boys Stella & Chewy dried patties as their lunchtime snack and they LOVED it and so did I. They started getting red eye gunk so I took it out of their diet. We were in NYC for the summer so I'm not sure if that was actually what was giving them the red gunk, could've been the water, or even the other treats I was giving. I should prob try to get it back into their diet since they LOVED it. They love anything raw actually, particularly beef. I've read and been told to feed them 2% of their total weight in raw/day. So after calculating it, seems like I am feeding them correctly. I might be going a little 2% but m vet said Snickers was at a perfect body weight so looks like I am doing the right thing. I've been feeding premade frozen raw for years, but like to check up on my methods every now and then to be sure it's right and current. Viv Viv

| I have had no issues with eye problems with Gracie while she has been on Stella & Chewy's alone. She did have some eye tearing when I still gave her a taste of whatever I was eating though out the day. I also had her on regular city water. She now gets no snack except all natural dog snacks and she is on purified water. She looks great. She's just hungry. |

| BARF diet??... Hey, I gravitated toward this post. I was just recently reading on the BARF (bones and raw food) diet and I'm assuming this is what everyone here is talking about? (clueless question) My baby is 7 months now. I'm hesitant about "raw" and about "bones", and wanted to know what everyone else thought about this for small dogs. I'm here in Japan and have been trying to blend just boiled chicken, eggs, spinach, carrots, and a little olive oil together into a mush. (hope this is okay...) I freeze it in tiny portions and mix it half & half with his dogfood for now (he east Royal Canin). His coat has gotten sooo soft (not sure if that's from the new food or not though) and he loves it. But not sure if it will be getting all the nutrients he needs if he just eats that. Note: I started off giving him small pieces of raw chicken, and he loved that too, but then I got nervous and started cooking it. Didn't mean to interupt the thread. Just wanted to share and I'll be listening to your further comments or suggestions. Thanks!! |
