Yorkie Yakker | Yeasty smell We adopted our yorkie at 4yrs. old in Jan. When we picked her up she had a terrible smell to her, which I thought we could wash away. Well, it is now October and even while we bathe her every two days, she still has this terrible stinch. We had taken her to the vet which did some yeast tests, gave us pills or all sorts and nothing helped. I have bought every shampoo recommended since the last time I posted here. Thought maybe there was some new people that might have some other ideas. Other than her having this horrible odor, she is a darling. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | have you checked her ears, my friend had a similar problem with her yorkie, and I went to her house one day and decided to check on her ears, and guess what? she had the most horrible yeast infection in her ears and under he eyes, she took her back to the vet and they gave he antibiotics for the eyes and ears and that was the end of the smell on Lily... | If I remember right, last time we suggested a trip to the dermatologist. Have you done that yet? I would expect no miracles with stubborn skin/coat issues like this without a specialist.

Yes, we did go to the dermatologist, who also did a skin scraping. Was given medication, to no avail, went back again, and after $400, decided that this was not a viable option for our budget.

| We finally got our wheaten terriers odor under control last year, it took a lot food switching but I think the biggest help was the probiotics which I sprinkled on her food . Now we feed Taste of the Wild -Pacific Stream, It has enough probiotics, etc that she is better than she has been in many years. |

It was a yeast infection, they gave her some pills (which I did not keep the bottle) as we finished them up. It didn't seem to relieve the problem, so took her back again and they suggested coconut oil in her food and a medicated shampoo Malaseb, the ear drops were remicin, or something like that.

| I have seen ppl on here who had problems w stubborn yeast and it eventually responded to the coconut oil. I think they put it on the food and in the ears (I'm not 100% sure about the "in the ears" - I'm getting old for perfect recall). You might want to do a search for coconut oil on this site or start a new thread asking ppl about their experiences w coconut oil for yeast problems.
