| When and how can you feed raw? My puppy Bella is 9 weeks now. I feed her Blue Buffalo dry food and canned food. I want to switch her to raw but i'm not sure if it's still to soon? Also I have heard if I switch her to raw the days she eats it she should not eat dry food because it take so long for it to digest that it holds the meat in longer and runs a higher risk of salmonella. I'm confused now??? Please tell me when you started your dog on raw and how do you feed raw!!!! All comments are greatly appreciated. |

| Have you decided to feed commercially prepared raw or prey model raw (home prepared)? Are you planning on continuing to combine kibble and raw, or do you wish to feed raw exclusively?

| I, personally, would not combine both prey model and kibble, especially for a puppy. Possibly someone else has experience in doing so.

| Raw meat (taking care of the handling of course) is perfect for almost any dog. Most of the diseases that dogs are developing now a days is related to poor nutrition and cheap commercial dog food. I have given my Roxy all the options available including good dry food, home prepared raw food, good quality canned, and home cooking and have to tell you that the best is the raw food. I use to prepare her home cooking more often than raw, but just for the convenience of storage. I believe that nothing beats the natural unprocessed food that you prepare in your home. But, again, it is my humble opinion. |

| I've been feeding raw for a few yrs now though when I travel I take Stella & Chewy's dehydrated along with Great life kibble and I take frozen primal or instinct raw food in a cooler . I breed as well but I wean the pups with kibble so I can help the transition easier for the owners. If I keep a pup back for myself I start the raw as soon as possible with minced chicken or turkey. Since you are wanting to feed both, my opinion would be to keep the pup on kibble until it's 3 months old. Then start the raw either in the morning or evening which ever is easier on you. You don't want to mess with a pups digestive system so young, either raw or kibble but one or the other for now. Many many pet owners and breeders make the transition to raw cold turkey, meaning right off the bat and not messing with anything other than raw food and do very well. It would be a good idea too to get the pup started on probiotics and enzyms..... |

| I started feeding my Westie raw at about 8.5 weeks when she came home. Here she is enjoying her raw meal (I think at 10 weeks) http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ride/003-5.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ride/011-2.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ride/006-5.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ride/010-2.jpg About the kibble- raw and kibble meals should be given at least 10-12 hours apart. For this reason, I would not do 1/2 with a puppy. If you don't want to go all raw- consider using something like Ziwipeak or Honest Kitchen to supplement the raw that you are willing/able to do now. | I feed Sasha 1/2 raw and 1/2 kibble. I've been giving her Primal raw for almost a year now and she has done extremely well eating both. Had I known about raw years ago, I may have started her on it when she was a puppy. She always looks forward to her meals now. |

| I don't feed kibble at all. Just a personal preference. I started feeding Oliver raw two days after he came home, at 9 weeks old. He does amazing. |
