| Update on Merlin Hi everyone. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back with an update. I just started back school full time, so my week's are pretty busy. Not too mention that this is one of the most stressful ordeals I've ever had to go through. So writing about this was not at the top of my list but I know everyone here is concerned. Merlin stayed in the hospital for 2 days and got to go home. The oncologist there said she had never seen a dog with leukemia go through chemo and get to go home. My little boy is pretty tough. He is on a daily cocktail of prednisolone, zantac, and an antiseizure medication. Every Thursday we have to make the 2+hr trip to Gainesville to get chemo treatments. (Every time we walk in the door he starts crying. It's the saddest thing.)It takes almost all day to get him there in the morning, get his blood tested to make sure it's okay to go ahead with the treatment, go through the chemo treatment, and make the trip back home. The chemo is working. It is lowering the amount of cancerous lymphocytes. He continues to have cluster seizures on a weekly basis usually for a full 24 hrs. He is now on anti seizure medication but I don't know how much it's really making a difference. The last time we went the oncologist told me that if he goes completely into remission that the next step would be to go ahead with a bone marrow transplant. This procedure costs $16,000, they only do it at University of North Carolina and is not even guaranteed to work. I just don't know what to do. I don't have that kind of money. I'm already borrowing thousands of dollars from my parents for vet bills and scrounging any money that I can put together. Like I said I'm a student and on a limited budget and was not prepared for any expense like this. He is a mostly happy ( & seemingly healthy, except for the seizures and what's in his blood work) puppy though so I'm going to try and do anything in my power so he lives as long of a happy life that i can. He's just so young. Only 6 months now. I pray no one else has to go through this. It's amazing how these little guys take a hold of your heart. Thank you to everyone for all your prayers. We really appreciate it.

| You are a wonderful Mommy to be helping your Merlin like this!! That is a lot of money and I can see where most would not have that kind of money to be able to care for their furbaby. Have you thought of a rescue? It is sad that you would have to give him up, but they would be able continue treatments. I am not sure if that is something you would ever want to do, but I thought I would throw the idea out there for you.

| Of course I've thought about it. I would never want to do that though. But I'm just taking it day by day and trying to figure out the next steps every time we go to the Oncologist. I'm not sure if a rescue would even be able to handle that kind of expense.

| I am so sorry that such a sweet dog has to deal with such a serious issue. I was wondering if you ever heard back from the breeder since it was determined that this was probably genetic. I am so sorry you have to deal with the huge expense of this treatment in order to do what is best for your little man. It is such a difficult place for a new dog owner to be in. I wish you and Merlin all the best and I will continue saying prayer for you and Merlin. It breaks my heart that he cries going into the treatment.

| I'm glad the chemo is working, but I'm so sorry you and Merlin are going through this ordeal. I hope things continue to take a positive turn for you. I know there is a type of credit card for pet emergencies. Does anyone know if it would cover this or if it would go up to this limit? |

| Have they tried KBR for the seizures? My Sammy had seizures and that really stopped them. He was seizure free for about 8-9 years. Keeping you and Merlin in my prayers. |
