Help! ZoE ate chicken bones!

My daughter's boyfriend arrived from London yesterday (his first time visiting since I've had ZoE) and today he was eating some left over KFC while watching tv, waiting for my daughter to get ready for them to go out, when he noticed his chicken was gone! ZoE ate it It's now after-hours, I called her vet & left a message, but haven't heard back yet, so I called the Emergency Vet and they said the greatest danger is when eating the bones and that if she's already eaten them to monitor her and look for blood in her poop and if I see any to take her in immediately! They also said not to give her anything to make her vomit..just let her digestive system work naturally & closely monitor for any problems. This sound right???

I'm looking for reassurance...has anyone else's yorkie eaten chicken bones & been ok? Should I feed her more dog food to make her poop quicker...or is that a silly thought???

Try to give Zoe some white bread (like Wonder bread). When Sammy ate a piece of Christmas ornament and my friends dog ate a wooden spoon, that's what our vets told us to do. I guess the bread cushions any sharp pieces. Good Luck!! I hope all is well!

You can give some bread to try and wrap around the bone.
Small meals every 4ish hours to help move it through (split up her daily meals into several small ones).
Vomiting = ER.

My Brody got a hold of some chicken bones before. Called the vet they said to cook brown rice and give him whole grain bread to push it out without damaging him. Kinda same idea Ellie May said. Good luck hope it works.

Thanks for the bread idea! Because of you two I was already on that by the time my regular vet called me back. He agreed on the bread and the small frequent meals too!

Don't know what it is about that KFC but it's a favorite around our house too. We've come home a few times to see the trash can knocked over and evidence that a certain couple of knotheads who will remain nameless have had a feast. We're all still around to tell the tale and now have a taller, heavier trash can. Sounds like you've gotten good advice, just keep an eye out and head to the vet if things don't look good.

Bread is what I was told when my little Maltese ate a glass Christmas bulb. He was fine.

But you do need to be careful and monitor their stool for blood. My Westie got into chicken bones and I thought he was ok - but, thank goodness he had an accident in the house and I saw all of the blood. That was the following day.

He had to have a set of x rays and medication and special food to settle his stomach - but nothing happened like a perforation or anything.

But I often wonder . . how long would it have taken me to figure it out if he hadn't had that accident in the house? I'm glad he did.

So . . just keep an eye out and good luck.

My old dog Cammie downed a chicken wing that got dropped once. We used the bread idea and she was fine. No vomiting.

It's now been over 24 hours, no vomiting and she's pooped 4 times and no blood, so I'm hoping all is good.

Actually, ZoE's been happy as can be...daughter's boyfriend felt terrible about the chicken incident cos he has two small senior dogs himself back in England. He's been as sweet as can be with her, which ZoE picked up on and has been dragging her toys to him all day long to play fetch or tug and he's been obliging. Add that to the extra feeding ZoE's been getting today and she's having a great day
