| Hi Renee. I'm very sorry. Last I knew, Ann liked Orijen quite a bit for dogs (hopefully she'll be along later). I don't like foods that high in protein. Shouldn't hurt a thing if the dog is healthy, but my preference is moderate protien foods.

We've decided to go with Acana for Ozzy. He seems to really like it, though honestly he never eats very much of anything.

Thanks guys! I will wait to see what Ann thinks. Bella didn't want to eat anything for lunch. I gave her 1 piece of the Orijen and she loved it.. but she got sick this morning- nothing major at all.. She was in her cage and I went to look and couldn't find any vomit. then I found a few specs of food. She is happy and playful and I'm hoping she will eat her dinner. OR he is just holding out for the Orijen which I've been only giving as treats. I did give her some Nutra Cal a couple hours ago just in case. I worry like crazy. It's hard not too. Esp since these yorkie babies are so teeny tiny. Lvtyorkie, sorry for your loss of Abby.. it's so hard to lose a furbaby. Sadie was the first baby I ever lost so it made it really hard for me. I still cry for her. Like I told my husband, Bella brings joy to my heart once again.. And we still have Sadie's sister Samie.. that just turned 13 yesterday. I could have 10 more puppies and my heart would still hurt from losing Sadie. . Only us Yorkie lovers truly understand and can relate how bad it hurts when they have to leave us. No one else gets us. At least for me, that's how it's been, Heck, my best friend of 27 yrs still does not understand how I can still hurt so bad from losing Sadie. I've grown tired of talking to her about it and I know who to tell my feelings too. So terrible.. and to make it worse- she is not happy that I got a new baby to love. What kind of a friend is THIS?? boy- I can't believe how certain situations and events shows someone's TRUE colors. Anyway- I'll wait to see more responses and see what Ann thinks. Samie is eating Wellness CORE and she loves it. It is grain free. I do like the grain free foods. I'm wondering if a particular food say's "PUPPY" on the front of the bag if it just means that the kibble is smaller size. The Orijen Puppy and also the Wellness Puppy definitely is super small kibble and perfect for Bella. Although her little teeth are RAZOR sharp, LOL! Once I have more time to spend here, I'll upload a pic of the lil cutie! Renee :-)

I agree that it's fun to see your kiddos love their food - it's just cute and heartwarming; and, they get so excited for meals. I do think Orijen is a nice food, and I def like Champion Foods (the manufacturer) better than most others. I love their white paper on canine nutrition too...have you read it? Really like it: http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/ORIJEN_White_Paper.pdf Maybe your gut is telling you to ease into a higher protein though? One thing you could do is 'cut' the higher protein by using 1/2 Orijen and 1/2 Wellness...and switch to Orijen later...or do the combo forever, if you like how it works. Also, Champion Foods makes Akana too, and they have some lower protein options if you like that idea better. I still am feeding raw, and really like it. If I fed kibble, it'd probably be Orijen.' Not to be too graphic, but how is her poo on the Orijen? That can be a good clue to how their bodies like a food too. Also, she will probably have a bit of increased water needs bc protein needs water for processing, but I've never really noticed it much here. So nice to 'see' you again!

Homemade food Hi all, I started making my 5 year old Yorkie's food last year when I switched over to treating with a homeopathic vet. Enzo has had a variety of health issues - vomiting, seizures associated with vomiting, incessant itching. He was never the best eater either (he loved Cesar but I stopped giving it to him after reading about the horrors of by-products). Now he gobbles up his food and he still itches but it is about 90% better than it was - he has seasonal allergies from outside I believe. While it does take time, I roast a variety of vegetables and add lamb, chicken or bison. He does not get any grains or white potato due to his allergies but I do add a small sweet potato. He gets several supplements daily as well as vitamins. I am so happy with his improvement!

My vet told me to warm up meat baby food and mix it with the dry food to flavor it for my 9 week shorkie. People tell me I'll probably have to keep this up, but that's fine with me. Hope this helps!
