| How to get dog to eat kibble?! Ok I've been trying and trying to get Bentley to eat his kibble, he only eats a tiny bit at a time. I bought green beef tripe and made a gravy and put it on his food and he just licks it off and spits out the food once he gets the tripe off of it. I don't know what to do to get him to actually eat his kibble.. It's frustrating. I was sure this would work but it hasn't. He loves the tripe though, just wont eat the kibble. It's Blue Buffalo small bites. I know it's a healthy food for him. I just don't know how to get him to eat it. Should I let the tripe gravy sit on it a while so it soaks in? I've just been putting it on the food and giving it to him straight away. Tonight I'll try that and see if he eats the kibble. Any other ideas?

| You can crush the kibble so it's harder to avoid. Now though, he is going to hold out for tripe. How many days straight have you just put the kibble down (2-3 times daily), then walked about, pick it back up, repeat in a few hours giving nothing whatsoever in between?

| I mix the tripe into the food. I could put the kibble in the blender and then mix in the tripe in his dish. I don't know if that would work. I'm willing to try it. My parents won't allow me to pick up the food after I put it down. (I'm 27 living at home), they think its cruel to deny him food during the day.. So I have to leave it down. I'll blend it up and see if he'll eat it. Thanks!

| Well, you can just leave it down. Put in down, walk away, ignore it. Measure it before you put it down (1/2 or 1 cup...). then measure the next morning, etc. Most adult dogs will do just fine without eating for a couple-few days and most will get the message that this is the only option. You would need to talk to his vet about how many days you should let him hold out without giving in. Any treats, chews, anything mixed into the kibble, any table food, etc. will just make him hold out longer. I mean, I prefer that a dog likes their food, but if he consistently refuses to eat kibble when you put it down, then it's time to get tougher.

| I sprinkle a little parmesian cheese on the kibble to get my picky eater to eat - now she just eats her kibble no problem. |

| My dog licks off whatever is on the food and then spits out the kibble. I tried canola oil, garlic powder, chicken water from the can and tripe. I did blend up the kibble and added tripe to it, mixed it in really well. Bentley ate a little bit of the mixture. I'll try again tomorrow morning. I'll blend it up again and add tripe to it. He loves the tripe, so it's like a little treat for him.

| Sometimes it might just take some tough love. Like others have said, put the food down and leave it. Don't add anything to it or give him anything extra. He's likely holding out for the tripe because he knows that you'll eventually give in but you have to be tough. Sasha used to be the same way until I finally gave in and put the food down, left it down for 15 minutes or so and picked it up. Whether she ate or not she'd have to wait until her next meal. I haven't had a problem with her eating in almost 2 years. I used to free feed but now she has 2 scheduled meals a day with treats given throughout the day and a bigger treat at night before bed. |

| Sometimes dog's just don't like the food they are eating. Teddie was picky like that, he would eat it for a week and then turn his nose up to it. If his brothers' and sister wanted to get at his kibble he would eat it. If they turned their nose up to it and ate their own he didn't want any part of it. I tried cottage cheese, a wee bit of cream cheese, cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, plain yogurt, and wet foods on top of his food. Now I found the perfect food for him...he eats natural balance bison and sweet potato with simply nourish on top (just a tablespoon). He especially likes the tuna/salmon mix. Now he eats the bowl clean as soon as it goes down and gets excited at meal time for his bowl. It's just a matter of finding that perfect mix that makes puppy excited. Good luck!!

| I just started feeding tripe yesterday to get him to eat. We had a breakthrough last night/this morning. I woke up and he had eaten almost all of the 1/4 cup of powdered (blended till powder) kibble with about a teaspoon of tripe mixed in really well. He ate it! Since tripe is good for dogs, I'll continue adding it to his meals. I just hope he can continue to eat like he did last night. I'm so happy! If that's what it takes then I'll do it. Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate it. I'll keep this thread updated for a while with how he's doing.
