Because vets don't really know all that much about animal nutrition. They get money from the products they sell in their office because representatives from the food companies visit them and set up a deal for them to sell their food, to push their food on unsuspecting customers. Science Diet is not great because it doesn't have real meat as the first ingredient, and it has corn in it which is a very common allergy for dogs and cats. I'd look into higher quality foods, just search and view the various threads about food in this section (Yorkie Health & Diet) and look at the stickies, there is one that has a list of companies that sell high quality food for dogs. You can contact them and get free samples.

How do these foods compare price wise to SD? Any idea?

Probably quite good. SD is high priced, from what I've seen.

I pay $9.99 for a 5lb bag of Taste of the Wild.

I also feed Acana in rotation and pay $14.99 for a 5.5lb bag of Grasslands formula.

Is the Taste of the Wild something you have to order, or can you get it at a store, only animal chain we have in our town is Petco, with other small local ones.

I found the website and they say they have it at 2 local farmer supply stores in town! I will be checking out prices!

I'm switching over to TOTW as we speak - Pacific Stream kibble. Kody will eat any and everything - but has a sensitive tummy at times. He gobbles his food down like there is no tomrrow.

Kody eats twice a day. I will feed 20z at each meal of TOTW - it says a 1/2c to 1c per day. But Kody is already like 8lbs, I would like to keep him in that range.

He also gets snacks (mid day), like green beens, banana (may 2x a week), yogurt, and trying apples.
