| YT Addict | Hi ~ I know that dairy is bad but is a treat horrible every once in a while? Teddi had a lick of vanilla ice cream today - his first - and he lo-o-o-ves it! If it were a once in a while thing would he be alright? What about Skippy peanut butter? Thanks!

| How cute! I don't think a liitle taste every now and then can hurt. Sammy used to have a tiny taste once in awhile (now he is on his crf diet and I don't know if he can have it). But he did love the vanilla soft ice cream. He has a tiny dab of peanut butter everyday when he takes his phenobarbital. The vet said it was OK. |

| There is such a thing as doggie ice cream! Don't know if the pup will think it is as good though. |

| We just came from a get together at my Mom and Dad's house and Mom made homemade vanilla Ice Cream. I gave Jada and Bogie about a tsp of it and they loved it. I wouldn't make a daily habit of it, but I am hoping this little bit doesn't upset their tummies.

| We give Miki a very tiny dish of ice cream once in awhile too for a special treat. She loves it! All you have to say is, "ice cream" and she gets all excited. She also shares daddy's milk (right out of his glass She has shown no adverse reactions to the dairy. I'm thinkin that it must be good for her bones. She fell off of a picnic table and landed on all fours on a blacktop parking lot, which scared the crap out of me, but she was fine. I totally freaked out thinking she must have broken at least one leg, but thankfully she was ok! |

| I admit it, Gizmo gets the end of my ice cream cone from dairy queen and that has a little bit of melted vanilla ice cream in it and he's fine. He also loves getting to lick the cup if his daddy gets a banana cream pie blizzard. Never had an issue, but like the other posters said, just don't make a habit out of it or you'll have a rolley polley!

| Years ago I had a little mini doxie that hated his baths. We would tell him he could have his bowl of blue bell if he took his bath. He would always be happy then to take one and get his prize at the end of the bath. Loved his Blue Bell. (he also was a little fatty) |

| Depends on the dog. Any new treat has the potential to cause upset. A few licks now and then usually won't hurt a healthy dog. I wouldn't give anything beyound that. Honestly, for small dogs, it's really best not to give it at all. Just watch how much you give because things like that can and do land a dog in the ER if they start vomiting, etc.

| ^^My primary concern would be not knowing the exact ingredients. Better safe than sorry is my approach to food.

| Imagine the looks you get when you share your ice cream cone with your dog Jackson LOVES it. Some places have little cups specially for dogs and they stick a Milk Bone on top.

| Mine share an ice cream cup every night in the summertime from the ice cream man. You know your dog better than anyone else and know what they are able to have. Some dogs cant have anything but their dog food because they are prone to pancreatus and some dogs never have an episode with it and have people food scraps and things their entire life. Mine are 6 and have had ice cream all their life

| Sadie turns 1 tomorrow, and she is the pickiest eater in the world. There are only 2 things we know she won't refuse ---- ice cream and cheese stick. She has only had ice cream twice, very small amounts, but she loves it. Therefore, her birthday treat tomorrow is going to be a small amount of dairy queen vanilla ice cream with 1/2 of a cheese stick stuck in the middle. I may even put a small candle in the cheese stick (for picture purposes only). I figure we can splurge for her birthday!! |

| YT Addict | You can buy LACTOSE-FREE ice cream at most health food stores and maybe even some regular grocery stores too, but i dont think i've seen them there. That is the "doggie ice cream" that they give to dogs at doggie daycare and other places like that. The reason why people ice cream can be harmful to a dogs digestive system is because MOST dogs are born lactose intolerant except to their mothers milk when they are babies. They are not tolerant to COWs or GOATs milk. The lactose free stuff is perfectly safe for the little ones and Dolce just LOVES it soooo much! And you can put a little crunchy treat on top for some variety or even mix in carob chips for chocolate chip ice cream! YUMMY!
