| Greenies for small yorkies? Does anyone know of greenies that can be given to yorkies that are smaller than 5 lbs? Millie is 3 lbs, 2 years old, and her teeth are starting to suffer. I want to be able to throw her a greenie every night, but the label says for dogs 5lbs or bigger. I am brushing her teeth, etc but would love to be able to fall back on this in addition to regular brushing. Thank you! |

| I know a lot of people are fans of greenies, but I just have to tell you that when Valentino was a puppy, he got a piece lodged into his throat and almost choked to death. It was, to this day, the worst and most scariest moment of my life! Needless to say, we have never given one to him or Lolita again. It's up to you, just thought I would let you know that they are potentially VERY dangerous... There are many articles online also explaining that greenies do not break down in some dog's systmes and can lead to emergency surgery...it is so sad. Owners: Dog treats killed our pets - CNN

| Personally, I would skip the Greenies. Although they have been "reformulated," they have been known to cause intestinal blockages that require surgery. Large pieces have also gotten caught in throats. I recommend Himalayan chews, if your dog will take to them. They help keep my boys' teeth clean. Every chew has its drawbacks. Most people like bully sticks, but there are many dogs that have had problems with those too.

| I don't like greenies but I give Harley these dental chews that are grain free and much healthier they are called "get naked" or something like that, they are really long and thin so I break them in half and only give half of one that is designed for a 5lb dog.

| My vet said to give Sammy the medium sized greenies so he wouldn't be able to gobble them up. He used to really like them but now he seems to like the medium size CET dental chews better. |

I wouldn't trust greenies with any size dog. Honestly, if a chew is hard enough to scrape teeth it is a tooth breaking hazard and that is a painful and expensive ordeal. Have your tried petzlife or LEBAIII ?

| I love greenies and so does Coco. Beckham wants nothing to do with them. I give Coco (who is 4.5 lbs) one greenie every night. She is 5 yrs old and have yet to have her teeth cleaned. I do not brush her teeth either. The vet told me that most likely I will need to bring her in this year for a dental - but I think 5 years without a dental is pretty good - so I will continue giving her a greenie every night. For me (and Coco) it works great!

| Wow..thanks guys. I just got on the site to browse, and saw where I had these replies! For some reason, I didn't get the email notifying me. I am going to look into the CET chews then maybe? I definitely don't want to take a chance with Millie with the greenies...especially because she likes to gobble things too quickly anyways. Thanks so much! |

| Coco is currently 2.5kg and ive been giving her greenies tiny chews ever since she came home at 1.6kg. I only give it to her once a week. I switch up her chews so she doesn't get bored. We have no problem with it at all. However, after she's done with her greenies, she needs her paws & mmouth washed because she gets chunks stuck on them. p.s when i get bk to canada im going to give her greenies small... (can't seem to find them here in korea)

| I bought Princess some Nutri Dent, not sure if those have the same effects and or problems as the Greenies...seeing how Princess refuses to eat one. She loves to bury them all over the house however.

| Hi- Dupree is 3lbs and he loves "greenies" and those are really the only bones that he will even bother with. He eats them down until there's only about a 1/3 left and then I throw them out. I don't think he can really grasp them when they are that little so I throw them out at that point. While everyone has different suggestions, I recommend that you see what your dog likes. Watch her for the 1st couple of times and see how she does- Dupree doesn't even attempt to chew them when they're that small so I don't have to worry about him scarfing it down & choking. Everyone's little one is different- so I say try them. Good Luck!! |
